Because BaseX was missing from the list at http://nosql-database.org/ , I took the liberty of adding it. There was a 330 char limit on the description, so I swiped some stuff from the home page and tightened it up to fit. If anyone at BaseX would prefer a different description, let me know or send it to the folks at nosql-database.org. And congrats on the latest release. Good features and reliability, Java, and the ability to use BaseX with Maven make it my XML DB of choice. Chas.

Hi Oliver, I tried both GUI mode and terminal client. I get the same error there. And also Map Visualization worked fine for the same collection before I created indexes. Don't you have the same problem in terminal mode? How big is your collection then (number of files and size in MB)? Congratulations to the hard working BaseX team for releasing BaseX 6.3. I haven't found a more powerful or useful XML database system. I know of very few open source software projects that are as attentive to problems, and as rapidly making improvements, as BaseX.

Changes done by one client reflected to others - how

Hi I see, that all queries are really living in its "within my connection" world and other clients, incl. GUI do not reflect it. Could someone explain, what exactly can be expected from that? Will other clients see mu updates after they reconnect? Can there arise some conflict? Like two clients updating the same node at the same time. These are quite important facts as it may affect way of deployment significantly (I am planning implementation, where we will handle traffic information with changes in minute by minute manner) With best regards Jan -- *Ing. Mac OS X Java Update 10.6.3 enthält keine Sourcen mehr

Dürfte alle Mac-User betreffen: http://lists.apple.com/archives/Java-dev/2010/Oct/msg00113.html Mit dem aktuellen Update werden die Java-Sourcen gelöscht und müssen seperat nachinstalliert werden, Link ist im Mailing-Beitrag auf der Apple-Seite (Login mit Apple-Dev-ID nötig). Ohne funktionieren die ganzen schönen Tooltips nicht mehr richtig... query plan / basex:index usage

Dear BaseX Team, First, could you tell me how I can get only the query plan of a query, without running it ? Last, is there a way to call, in a same cross db/collection query, basex:index function on each of the dbs/collections ? Thank you for sharing your wonderful native database. Index issue for a large collection

Hi, I have a database collection with over 17000 documents (about 190MB in total). Everything worked fine until I created text and attribute indexes to improve performance. Now I cannot open database and perform any operation with it because I get 'Error: Out of Main Memory'. Setting "intparse on" doesn't help. I've increased Xmx value up to 2560m (maximum value for my system), it doesn't help too. Is there any way to fix it? Could you provide an approximate size of memory that is required for text and attribute indexes depending on the size of the database? Is there any possibility for me to use indexes on current system? Thanks in advance! Best regards, Ivan

Hi Nigel, 1. You have to run a query on the database like: for $doc in collection() let $path := base-uri($doc) return $path 2. Yes you can do that, see the following example: script test (save as test): create db test xquery insert node <root /> into doc("test") xquery doc("test")/root run the script: java -cp basex-6.2.9.jar org.basex.BaseX (or BaseXClient) < test 3. There is currently no 'reload' command...So you have to replace the file by your own. 4. You can have a look at the homepage on http://www.inf.uni-konstanz.de/dbis/basex/commands or just ask for more information. I hope i could help, dont hesitate to ask for more. Hi Nigel Just a note from what I learned about using (Python) API I tested Python and it seemed broken - server console was reporting some errors. I came back later on (after getting disappointed by Sedna XML database disk space requirements). Using latest BaseX I succeeded Starting server java -cp basex-6.2.9.jar org.basex.BaseXServer Starting client java -cp basex-6.2.9.jar org.basex.BaseXClient -n localhost -p 1984 My Python scripts are since then performing without any problem. My estimation is, the same may apply to other API, not only to Python. I think, there was some other post recommending you to use some API to get the file remotely to a database. Such a test is on my plan, I may let you know.
