OK, I have found a way that works every time: ... return concat($members," ",$id," ",$name,"\n") $ make -n basex g.xq|perl -pwle 's/\\n ?/\n/g'

All I want is a b c a b c a b c a b c No trailing blanks. No leading blanks. Please advise. $ cat e.xq for $m in (1,2,3,4) return "a b c

Writing out <?xml

I would like to write this line into the beginning of an xml file I am generating. This is a must because I am generating csv file in xml form that should be opened Microsoft Excell. <?xml version="1.0"?> I tried to use "processing-instruction" like this processing-instruction {"xml"} {'version="1.0"'} But I am getting Error: [XQDY0064] Processing instruction has illegal name: 'xml'. Backing up database

Hi, I am trying to maintain a daily backup of all the XML files stored in the database. When I run CREATE BACKUP *, zipped backups of all the databases are created. I unzipped these archives and noticed that the files inside are stored in an internal basex format. Please see an example archive attached. Will I be able to restore these archives to original state if I upgrade to a newer version of BaseX? Will the files in the internal format be compatible with newer versions? If not, is there an alternative way of creating backups? Or, do you suggest I write an XQuery to create timestamped versions of files? Thanks, Sony

time out

Hi, I have a Web interface (cgi-bin) that allows users to search a collection and store specific results. Although each user has to log in with a personal account, they all use the same interface and thus create a session with: my $session = Session->new("localhost", 1984, "admin", "admin"); It is possible that several users access the collection at the same time and run different queries. From time to time (I cannot see a specific pattern), they report a time-out. It is not because they try to cancel a query by clicking the back-button. If they try the same query a few minutes later, it runs without a time-out. These queries need between 200 and 14000 ms in the GUI and have around 2000 to 4000 results. I wonder whether this time-out is due to overload of the server as such (I have a virtual server only with 2GB RAM and don't know who else is using it for what) because it needs so much time to compute the results, or due to concurrent access to the collection all run with the "admin" user? The result for a query is a HTML code with checkboxes, the rendering of each element is done within XQuery. Perhaps this makes the whole process too slow and the browser times out waiting for the results? Best regards Cerstin -- Dr. phil. Cloning the git

I am getting "fatal: reference is not a tree: c136fd9513677fad862a337ea895b5f8be0fafe9 Unable to checkout 'c136fd9513677fad862a337ea895b5f8be0fafe9' in submodule path 'basex'" while trying to clone the project "basex-meta" along with submodules. Any suggestion on how to solve?. Thanks, Seeni

GUI no longer pretty-printing?

Howdy -- I'm accustomed to the GUI providing XML output in easy-to-read, pretty-printed form. I just upgraded to 7.2.1-pre-20120410.144517, and that behavior no longer appears to be the case -- documents (as displayed in the GUI) have no whitespace they weren't originally created with. Is this an intentional change? Is a toggle available?

glob syntax

I'm trying to use the CREATEFILTER directive to: . Include all files WITHOUT an extension . Exclude all files WITH an extension . Exclude the specific file "_cache" (note, it has NO extension) . Do all this for a whole directory tree I notice that CREATEFILTER uses "glob syntax" (http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Commands#Glob_Syntax) Questions: 1. Since this is a java program, does that mean that: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/fileOps.html#glob and http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/nio/file/FileSystem.html#getPa thMatcher%28java.lang.String%29 provide the exact full description of "glob syntax" for BaseX? 2.
