Hi, I want to score searches with multiple conditions e.g. let $data:=( <r><a>red apple</a></r>, <r><a>blue lagoon</a></r>, <r><b>fish and chips</b></r>) for $hit score $s in $data[ a contains text("red") or b contains text("fish")] return $s In 7.8.2 it always returns scores of zero. In version 7.6 it returns numbers like 0.6201145069582775 0.4528324252639413 Is this bug? Regards /Andy

stream binary responses from http:module

Hi I have built a small client in XQuery that fetches zip files from another remote service using the http-module and stores them on disk with the help of the file-module. Some of the returned zip files are really large and BaseX seems to need to materialize the files in memory before writing them to disk resulting in out of memory errors for some files. Is there some way read the response in a more streamable fashion when using the http-module? I tried using the fetch:binary function successfully but i really need the more extended functionality of the http-module. #results in out of memory if the zip file is too large file:write-binary("file.zip", http:sendrequest(...)[2]) #works all the time. file:write-binary("file.zip", fetch:binary(...)) JSON or JSONML output formatting

Hello, I've been playing with BaseX lately and all-in-all am very impressed. Something I'm wrestling with however is the JSON output options. I've got various web applications that would really be simplified by receiving JSON straight away for the obvious scripting benefits. The JSON method has been giving me a lot of grief, stipulating rules I'm not sure how to follow. right now I have an element that "is typed as string and cannot be nested." I've been able to get JSONML to output but the JSON is this morass of nested Arrays... Attributes seem to get transformed into Objects but elements/tags and their values are pushed into Arrays for some rationale - which I suppose is on purpose. My question is how can I get Objects for simple key:value properties from <tag>value</tag> 's. Are there options I'm not utilizing? Would it be feasible to transform the XML output to some middle form first - setting it up to become Objects, before serializing it to JSON? Thanks! USPTO XML format causes BaseX GUI errors

Hi, I am new to BaseX and will attempt to use it to analyze xml datasets from R at some point in the near future. I am using a BaseX GUI under Windows-7 operating system and had an error while trying to create a database using the GUI by using an XML file as input. The file comes from the US Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO), and the larger XML datasets they provide have the same problem. The error text is: Command: CREATE DB ipgb20110104Sample C:/Users/admin/Downloads/ipgb20110104Sample.xmlError:"C:/Users/admin/Downloads/ipgb20110104Sample.xml" (Line 306): The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed. The XML document I am trying to open is contained in this zip file: http://www.uspto.gov/products/ipgb110104-sample.zip The link to the document is in this page: http://www.uspto.gov/products/xml-resources.jsp under the "Patent Grant Data / XML ST. 36 (ICE) v4.2 (a.k.a. Red Book) (2007 - 2012)" section of the page, under the "Sample Documents (Bibliographic)" bulletpoint >From searching online, I found that the error is because of poor formatting in the file. However, larger datasets of the same kind (USPTO bulk download @ Google) have the same problem. In the specific case of the file I mention, it has a carriage return in the first line, and then has several concatenated XML files, which is the case of the larger XML files from the USPTO. My question is: Is there a work around to this error/problem? Can I somehow tell BaseX to ignore or somehow acknowledge that mistake and load the file(s). Thank you so much, Jose -- Jose I. apply variable bindings to command scripts

Dear all, Currently, in order to obtain tailored command scripts, I found the following solution : A template test.bxs file : <commands> <open name='${DBNAME}'/> <xquery> <![CDATA[ (/document)[1] ]]> </xquery> <close/> </commands> A bash script test.sh: #!/bin/bash DBNAME=de-dpma-u-meta eval "cat <<EOF $(<$1) EOF " | basex -c- And then call : ./test.sh test.bxs Could it be possible for the variable bindings to be applied also to script commands, So basex -bDBNAME=de-dpma-u-meta test.bxs does the whole job ? that would work also for commands' sequences like : <set option='bindings'>..... <execute> or <run> Merci ! Error handling

Hello all, the error interception functions are pretty useful. My "feature request" here is whether it could be possible to overcome: "XQuery runtime errors can be processed via /error annotations/. A single argument must be supplied, which represents the QName of the error to be caught. A wildcard |*| may be specified to catch all possible errors. A function can only have a single error annotation:" It could be useful to have at least a second level of wildcards on the QName prefix in order to be able to differentiate behaviours according to categories of errors. |%rest:error||(||"ns1:*"||)| A more fine grained filtering (i.e. comma separated list of exception codes) could also be useful but since I don't understand the difficulty of building this into the code I won't ask too much. The only alternative I see at the moment is a single function with a switch or a lot of replicated functions. What is your opinion on this? Thanks and regards, Marco.

Dynamic Module Loading

Hello, Exist-db has an util:import-module<http://exist-db.org/exist/apps/fundocs/view.html?uri=http://exist-db.org/xq…>function that allows to dynamically import an XQuery module at run time. I haven't found anything equivalent in BaseX. Is that right ? I have also tried to see how to implement such a function directly in Java, but as far as I understand the module parsing process, functions prefix are checked at compile time. That would compromise any attempt to write such a function. Am I right ? 7.8.2 Updating function items

Hello all, after switching to 7.8.2 we started to get this error: XUST001 Updating function items are not yet supported when passing an updating function as a value. This used to work neatly from 7.6 at least onwards. I must admit that I'm pretty surpirsed and I'd like to ask where ni the docs I could get more info on that. Thanks. Regards, Marco.

Is there a way to identify an inline function in BaseX?

Hi, In my xquery-program I need to identify an inline function. ( it's a generalized function with a specialized inline function as parameter. The generalized function has to determine which type it's dealing with) I tried annotations but the inspect:function( $f) function doesn't give anything away in case of an inline-function. See attachment. Is there a way to identify inline-functions? Even the namespace of the inline-function would be enough.
