BaseX 9.6: The Summer Edition

Dear all, We provide you with a new and fresh version of BaseX, our open source XML framework, database system and XQuery 3.1 processor: https://basex.org/ Apart from our main focus (query rewritings and optimizations), we have added the following enhancements: XQUERY: MODULES, FEATURES - Archive Module, archive:write: stream large archives to file - SQL Module: support for more SQL types - Full-Text Module, ft:thesaurus: perform Thesaurus queries - Fulltext, fuzzy search: specify Levenshtein limit - UNROLLLIMIT option: control limit for unrolling loops XQUERY: JAVA BINDINGS - Java objects of unknown type are wrapped into function items - results of constructor calls are returned as function items - the standard package "java.lang." has become optional - array arguments can be specified with the middle dot notation - conversion can be controlled with the WRAPJAVA option - better support for XQuery arrays and maps WEB APPLICATIONS - RESTXQ: Server-Timing HTTP headers are attached to the response For a more comprehensive list of added and updated features, look into our documentation (docs.basex.org) and check out the GitHub issues (github.com/BaseXdb/basex/issues). Hi, The code[1] below and send as attachment generates a error message: “Static variable depends on itself: $Q{http://www.w3.org/2005/xquery-local-functions}test”. I use these variables to refer to my private functions in my modules so I can easyly refer to them in a inheritance situation. It’s not a big problem for me but I was wondering if the error-triggering is justified or that it should work. json serialization : how to ignore new lines and tabs ?

Dear all We need to convert some xml data to json to create a nice js visualisation in our webapp The json:serialize works fine, except the fact that it creates empty strings data due to \n, \s and \t We can't find the option(s) to ignore them... And we would like to ignore the namespace attributes as well. default context item

Dear BaseX people, probably a blackout of mine, but I do not understand the following behaviour. Query: declare context item external := '#none'; . When I call it, specifying a context item using -i or -I, I always get the default context item ('#none'). What do I overlook? Kind regards,Hans-Jürgen

java.lang.NumberFormatException: adding to/creating database with attribute that might be a number (?)

Hello, I’m seeing a lot of exceptions written to the console when I add a document that has an attribute value that is a date. I can’t quite work out exactly what format causes BaseX to think it might be a number. It appears that the index is still created/updated correctly so the exception might be cosmetic. But I thought I’d report it. Below, I’ve given a command that I run through /dba and repeats the issue every time, also the full console output. base-uri throws exception

Hi, importing archives using the GUI containing files with certain characters (e.g. []) leads to exception requesting the base-uri later on. For example importing a archive containing 'files/[Content_Types].xml' file (which is a valid file name) can be imported and results in the mentioned uri which is not valid and will result in an exception using base-uri for nodes contained in the corresponding instance. Better mask the non allowed chars while importing instead of creating invalid uris. Alex

Ms Excel-Files treated as MS-Word-Files

Hi, Excel files not treated as archives comparable to MS-Word / MS-PowerPoint or idml Files (Indesign related) while importing using GUI. The later 3 are treated as (zip) archives and content is added. This is very handy for certain data analytics tasks. Would be nice if .xslx files treated the same as docx, pptx, etc. Might be a low hanging fruit? Best regards, Alex

I get this error with either the test.xqm found in the BaseX GitHub repo or a copy of the file taken from the web page: % basex test test.xqm Stopped at /Users/jonathan/github/basex/basex-core/src/test/resources/, 1/5: [XPDY0002] test: Context is undeclared. What am I doing wrong? Jonathan
