Repo and development workflow

Hi, As part of the basex-gradle-starter scripts [1] I am now looking at how to deal with the repo. Until now I have always developed by putting modules under webapp. It allows to just edit a file and query away. I like to have the same workflow during development and take advantage of having modules not depend on a fixed import path. When working with the repo modules have to be installed first. Just copying them under the repo doesn't make basex aware of them. Of course I could arrange it so that I run a build task that does this via repo:install but that involves the extra step of copying files from the install location into the repo instead of just registering the files that are already in the repo location. I would like to have, for example, a 'src' directory with the repo module directory structure. Is there a way to say to basex that my repo lives in 'src' and that it auto registers what it finds there. Say a command like repo:register('dir') or maybe even an auto-register option. Once a module is already installed editing and saving is enough for basex to pick up the change. No issue there. Of course for production I probably want to compile the code to jar or xar in order to install it and share it. But during development I would like to be able to just have the code be picked up so that I can edit, save and query. I am not sure if what I'm asking is a feature or if I just have to do things differently. BTW one more thing I noticed. When I sometimes get into a situation where individual empty directories are also recognized as packages (but I cannot delete them from the GUI package manager). Static files in other places than /static/* without modifying WEB-INF/web.xml ?

Hi everybody Thanks a lot for this wonderful BaseX 8 release and for distributing the dba module : Not only is it very practical, but it is also very inspiring to look carefully at how you guys wrote it and it gives us thousands of ideas to complete our own SynopsX module :) But it doesn't mean we always manage to imitate you... For example, exactly as you do, we want to distribute our static files inside our module, in a synopsx/files/ directory, and of course we don't want to ask people to modify the static path declaration in their WEB-INF/web.xml file to use our module. It works perfectly in your dba module : for exemple in dba/modules/tmpl.xqm, the created html element calls files/js.js or files/style.css and it simply works... But not in ours : we get this "No function matches the request" error because these files pathes are interpreted as restxq pathes (which sounds reasonable, but why not in yours ?) We are know trying more and more complicated things that don't work neither, like in https://github.com/mingarao/synopsx/blob/dev/webapp/synopsx/_restxq/files.x… line 37... So I think we should better stop there and ask you : what's the trick in dba ? All the best ! Issue with dtd validation

Hi, Since my last upgrade to BaseX 8.0 beta 9cb3a37 (also just tried BaseX 8.0.1 beta 161c4fd), I noticed that the dtd validation errors are cut when to long, so I'm getting messages like this one, that don't help my users much: File 'html-review/dh4/device-help/3338/50/global/en-us/T1401261601.html' doesn't validate against BaseX-DTDs/xhtml/xhtml1-transitional.dtd. Error [bxerr:BXVA0001]: Validation failed. "Error:archie, 5:28: Attribute "... Plus, in previous versions, I was removing some errors that we don't care about, which I can't do anymore. Is there a new option to get the full messages like I used to with $err:description? Bug in XQuery archive module

Hi, I stumbled upon a bug in the archive module on BaseX 8.0. The zip files created by the archive module are not valid. ``` let $found := file:list("/tmp/test/media/") return file:write-binary("/tmp/test.zip", archive:create( $found, $found ! file:read-binary( "/tmp/test/media/" || .) , map { "format" : "zip", "algorithm" : "deflate"})) ``` The resultting zip file is invalid. Trying to unzip in cli returns: ``` Archive: test.zip End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of test.zip or test.zip.zip, and cannot find test.zip.ZIP, period. ``` The same code works in BaseX7.9 Cheers, Alex

Regression? Unknown parameter: 'wrap' in 8.0.x

Hello, I am toying around with BaseX 8.0.1 (beta 161c4fd) and it looks like there is a regression from BaseX 7.9. In BaseX 7.9 I could issue the following POST query via the REST interface. <query xmlns="http://basex.org/rest"> <text>...</text> <parameter name='wrap' value='yes'/> </query> Now, the same query raises an exception in the server: org.basex.http.HTTPException: Unknown parameter: 'wrap'. at org.basex.http.HTTPCode.get(HTTPCode.java:55) at org.basex.http.rest.RESTPost.get(RESTPost.java:65) at org.basex.http.rest.RESTServlet.code(RESTServlet.java:43) Has something been changed in the way REST requests are processed? following::* is 100x slower than preceding::*

Hello, I have noticed that this query using the "following" axes //*[@xml:id = "lemma-aMSa"] /following::*[self::tei:entry or self::tei:re] [position() <= 3] is much slower than the same query with the "preceding" axes //*[@xml:id = "lemma-aMSa"] /preceding::*[self::tei:entry or self::tei:re] [position() <= 3] The query that uses "preceding" takes about 2.5 ms to execute, while the one using "following" takes about 250 ms: it is 100 times slower. Why this discrepancy between these two queries? I can provide the base XML file (19MB) on request. Also, I also get a warning about «'following::*[(self::tei:entry or self::tei:re)][(fn:position() <= 3)]' will never yield results.» but that is obviously false, as it yields exactly the 3 results I expect. BaseX in maven

BaseX friends, If I run BaseX from Maven, do I always get to use the latest BaseX? Do I have to do anything special to set up BaseX in Maven to use SaxonHE instead of Xalan for xslt:transform()? Hi, I am new to BaseX and using version of 7.6 and I don't know where to post my questions. I have two questions as follows 1. When a database is created under the folder BaseXData, there were 9 files exist. Could you please share the details of eash file in the database. 2. Also, when I replace the content(same) in the database instead of droping and recreating, the database size is getting increased. Could you please explain why this is happened even the same data were replaced. 3. test if a namespace prefix is declared

We wanna test if a function exists with fn:function-lookup As fn:function-lookup only takes QNames, in some cases the namespace isn’t declared. So unsurprisingly, we get an error FONS0004 No namespace declared for prefix ‘……’ Is there any way to test if the namespace is declared first ? Thanks a lot, and best regards ! Emmanuel
