server side restxq calls

Hi, during implementing my website based on BaseX with restxq, I run into a problem. In BaseX it is only possible to execute either updating or non-updating xquery expressions in a function. So if I want to mix updating with non-updating expressions I have to execute a restxq call (updating) which forwards to another restxq call (non-updating). I know the possibility of using db:output("some non-updating expression"), but I guess it is not the right way if I only use updating-functions with db:output(...). Like: declare updating function ns:foo(...) { db:output("some code") } So my idea is to execute server side restxq calls, like: restxq:call("user/1"), which delivers the output of the function behind. I tried out going the external way with http:send-request(<http:request method='get' href="https://localhost:8443/user/1"/>). But I get problems with the SSL connection. If I open another non-SSL basex server a different port it is not possible to execute restxq calls as well, because of the jetty security module I use. So are there any clever ideas either to mix updating with non-updating functions (and not abuse transaction security) or do server side restxq calls? Best regards, Florian

Hi Cong, BaseX XQJ supports XQuery 3.0, XQuery Update Facility as well as XQuery Full Text. If you are executing an XQuery Update expression and the BaseX XQJ driver is producing an XQException where BaseX was never even contacted in the first place, then this is a bug in BaseX XQJ. Bugs found in any XQJ driver from xqj.net can be reported at: http://xqj.net/issues To find out for sure, I would suggest turning debug mode to its highest level, with code along the lines of: XQDataSource ds = new BaseXXQDataSource(); ds.setProperty("logLevel", "TRACE"); ds.setLogWriter(new PrintWriter(System.out, true)); XQConnection xqc = ds.getConnection(); /** execute your update expression **/ Regarding the second problem, to make sure your XQResultSequences produced from an XQConnection instance is scrollable, you could use: XQConnection xqc = ds.getConnection(); XQStaticContext xqsc = xqc.getStaticContext(); xqsc.setScrollability(XQConstants.SCROLLTYPE_SCROLLABLE); xqc.setStaticContext(xqsc); /** execute expressions via xqc **/ Alternatively, you can create a scrollable copy of any type of XQSequence via the createSequence method, for instance: XQResultSequence rs = executeQuery(); XQSequence scrollableCopy = xqc.createSequence(rs); Hope this helps. Issue with backup

Hi team, The backup have some problem... After taking multiple backups, all the previous backups get affected... Suppose, I took backup, say B1, then I made some changes and took another backup say B2.. Then the backup B1 is also getting affected... -- Have a nice day JBest

some questions over the profile module

Hello Christian, I have some small questions over the profile module. 1) The following code declare function local:sequence($nb){for $i in 1 to xs:integer($nb) return $i}; prof:time(fn:count(local:sequence(1000000000000000000))) return 4.94 ms. It means that you lazy evaluate the query "{for $i in 1 to xs:integer($nb) return $i" ? (I recall that you already mentioned this point that but I would like a confirmation, since it might be a profiler issue) 2) It seems that you somehow call the fn:trace function in the profile module. Is there a way to catch the returned values of these functions ? The motivation is for profiling purposes. To be more specific, I would like to treat the output results as <output @function = "my_function">{prof:time( "xquery" ) }</output> to be able to aggregate results at a higher level of call, i.e. something like for $output in $prof//output let $fun := data($output/@function) group by $fun return element-name{$fun}{sum(data($output) ) } Thanks Jean-Marc

What troubled us now is that when we doing an insertion or deletion, there is actually nothing changed in the XML file. Then I checked that it seems that XQJ is not available to XQuery update. Is it really like that? Otherwise, how can we write or delete things in the XML file? BaseX Failing After a Number of Requests

Hi Guys, We have implemented BaseX to provide a REST API to access specific information out of the database. Databases range in size from hundreds to 6000+ XML files, and the APIs use the attribute index to quickly locate nodes and return information about them. We have been noticing that BaseX has been randomly failing after a number of requests in the range of several hundred. I can replicate the failure in a few minutes by looping curl requests from the command line. The failure is made apparent by a valid request returning a Jetty 404 Error: HTTP ERROR 404 > > Problem accessing { redacted URL }. Reason: > > No function found that matches the request. > > ------------------------------ > *Powered by Jetty://* > This message is the same message that is thrown when requesting a URL that does not have a matching path, but this request is valid, and has been used before. It appears that the issue is the BaseX server failing somehow, but I can't track the reason. No information is logged at the time of the crash. If I connect to the BaseX server (on port 1984) using the basexclient, it connects, but reports that there are no databases available. Once I restart the service, I can reconnect, and it lists all databases as it should. Any ideas what might be causing these issues? Thanks, Jeremy

BaseX Evaluation for Big Data

I'm evaluating BaseX to use in a project that involves 10s of TB of xml data. Our goal is to be able to return a small amount of data from a query within a few seconds. Is BaseX capable of handling this much data? My initial evaluation of 1GB of data met our requirements. But, when I evaluated BaseX using about 20GB of data I get an out of memory message when I run a query. I'm running Windows 7 Pro on a Core i7, 8GB memory, and using the BaseX GUI.
