Release of BaseX 6.5.1

Dear all, Version 6.5.1 of BaseX has just been released. It's mainly a stability release, but it also includes some new features and improvements, as shown in the changelog below: [ADD] Storage: Parser options added for built in importers (CSV, TXT) [ADD] APIs: JAX-RX: Flag added to start server in background (-s) [ADD] APIs: Command-line flag added to pass on extern variables (-b) [ADD] XQuery Functions: util:integer-from-base(), util:integer-to-base(), util:sha1(), util:md5() [ADD] Commands: DROP DB ... ON [...]: delete users from specific databases [ADD] Packaging: W3 catalog resolver file (w3-catalog.xml) added [MOD] APIs: JAX-RX: all REST props and calls renamed to JAX-RX/jaxrx [MOD] XQuery Full Text: improved rewritings for index-based evaluation [MOD] XQuery Full Text: better scoring results for index-based queries [MOD] Core: Locking: multiple readers/single writer concept revised [MOD] Windows Packaging: "Start Server" icon starts JAX-RX as well If you are working with our JAX-RX (REST) Interface, please note that we have changed some of the options and calls to make the naming more consistent. As an example, the basexrest script is now called basexjaxrx, and the RESTPATH option has been renamed to JAXRXPATH. Please visit our documentation and search for "6.5.1" to find more details. BaseX produces illegal XML

BaseX 6.5.1 *still* has issues with producing illegal XML. See http://top.cs.vt.edu/~gback/bx/b651-bug/ for a snapshot of the BaseXData directory with instructions on how to reproduce it. BaseX returns: <entry xmlns="http://libx.org/xml/libx2" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> which obviously is invalid XML. - Godmar

If so, why different treatment? Thanks.

Hi Artur, I just found out this all comes down to a mistake in our XQuery Update documentation - I'm sorry to cause that confusion. The XQuery Update specification says this: If you have an expression like ... *'replace value of node A with B'* the expression *B* is evaluated with a text node constructor. That means the result of *B *is either a sequence of text nodes or an empty sequence. Considering your example the outcome is valid - it's the documentation which is wrong. It's simply not possible to replace the *value of* an element node (its descendants) with other elements. I'll take care of this inconsistency. Hope this clears things up, thanks for pointing that out! Wish - allow using clipboard also for shift+Delete control+Insert shift+Insert

Hi Working in GUI is nice, I only like using shift+Delete control+Insert shift+Insert shortcuts for working with clipboard and currently it does not work in XQuery window in BaseX GUI See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut,_copy,_and_paste#Common_keyboard_shortcuts I am working on MS Windows. BaseX6.5 - how to add documents into collection over wire (probably using ADD command)

Hi I need to insert documents into BaseX collection. As data are not always available directly as files and as sometime my server is remote to me, I need a method to add documents remotely. With older BaseX (I think BaseX 6.4) I was able to use add commend in the way add as doc1 <root/> This works now. But I am unable to insert anything, what has any attribute in this manner add as doc1 <root att="att"/> This keeps complaining and prints back help on the console. I am using basexclient.bat and Python API. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any advice. Jan

Hi all, following the documentation on http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Update the instruction of: replace value of node /doc with <new-element/> on db: <doc> <node/> </doc> should result in: <doc> <new-element/> </doc> but the result is: <doc/>

Maven Repository

data corruption

Hello, Unfortunately I am unable to use BaseX (6.5) as I keep getting data corruption. I run BaseX on a dedicated server. The xml-datafiles I insert into the database have the following layout: <EEGData bla="x" > <signal name="x"> <timeslot start="2008-07-24T14:22:16">-53.2942688282 -37.5091841347 -35.6337285276 (many more values)</timeslot>  </signal>  </EEGData> Running "list" on the client returns the following: Name Documents Size Path ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------ fullxml 3789 522153128560 /path/to/xml This database was created by running the command: java -cp basex.jar org.basex.BaseXClient -c "create db fullxml /path/to/xml/files/" The problems start when I execute the "list fullxml" command, this returns: > list fullxml Possible bug? I even dropped the entire database and recreated it, with the same problem on the same file(s). It seems that after a certain amount of data, the database gets corrupted; all documents inserted after this point contain garbage.
