Difficult for me to understand

Hi Christian and all, I'm experiencing a weird issue with a RestXQ service of mine which was working and suddenly starts having problems because it just stops serving requests. I know about SSCE and so on but this time it's hard to reproduce. Shortly, it receives about 5 simultaneous requests and for each of those it calls one xquery:fork-join (5 functions) to query another service. I cannot say what the error is exactly during the time when it is stuck. What I can see on the client are, besides HTTP 503 and Read Timeouts, the following logs which appear frequently but with no particular order: ERROR: Unexpected error: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "org.basex.util.hash.WeakTokenSet$WeakTokenRef.get()" because "this.keys[index]" is null (hint: /...y/webapp/nubisware.muscle.fiber.ccp_admin/ccp_worker_sk.xqm@65:33) ERROR: Unexpected error: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException (hint: /.../webapp/nubisware.muscle.fiber.ccp_admin/ccp_worker_sk.xqm@65:33) ERROR: Unexpected error: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Index 8 out of bounds for length 8 (hint: /.../webapp/nubisware.muscle.fiber.ccp_admin/ccp_worker_sk.xqm@65:33) Line and column numbers point always to the same xquery:fork-join call. Can you point me to what I should investigate? Am I hitting some quantitative limit on concurrency? Connections? Cannot add a folder with HTML files as binaries that contain '[', ']', '{' or '}' in their file names

Hi BaseX team! When I try to add a HTML file that contains '[', ']', '{' or '}' in its file name (like "Test[].html") by selecting its parent folder, then I get an error message like this: Resource "C:\Program Files (x86)\BaseX\file:\C:\Test\Test[].html (The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect)" not found. It seems that in this case the current BaseX working directory is prefixed to the actual path. This happens when I set "Import format" to RAW or when I set "Import format" to anything but HTML and check "Add other files as binary files" in the GUI. When I set "Import format" to HTML or XML then the file is added to the databse. With the command line the behaviour is the same when trying to add Test[].html in C:\Test\: BaseX 12.2 [Standalone] Try 'help' to get more information. > CREATE DB Test Database 'Test' created in 10.91 ms. > OPEN Test Database 'Test' was opened in 0.02 ms. > SET PARSER raw PARSER: raw > SET CREATEFILTER * CREATEFILTER: * > ADD "C:\Test\" Resource "C:\Program Files (x86)\BaseX\bin\file:\C:\Test\Test[].html (The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect)" not found. !--- Manually renamed Test[].html to Test.html ---! > ADD "C:\Test\" Resource(s) added in 2.6 ms. I assume that !#$%&'()+-=@[]^_{}~ are valid characters for file names in BaseX. Am I getting something wrong or might this be a bug? I used the BaseX122.exe installer on Windows 11. BaseX119 and BaseX123-20260129.122524 behave the same.

Unexpected result with simple mapping operator and sequence of maps

Hi, BaseX folks. In BaseX 12.1, Query A below returns (false, false), but I expected (true, false). Query B returns true, as I expected. Query C returns (true, false) as expected. Query A let $map1 := map{'key1': 'string'} let $map2 := map{'key1': [] } return ($map1, $map2) ! (. instance of map(xs:string, xs:anyAtomicType) ) Query B let $map1 := map{'key1': 'string'} return $map1 ! (. instance of map(xs:string, xs:anyAtomicType) ) Query C let $map1 := map{'key1': 'string'} return ($map1, 0) ! c++ howto create and use a websocket to a remote machine

Hi, Thanks to an increasing number of grandchildren, as a retiree I have had little time in recent years to continue working on my C++ client for Basex. It therefore took a lot of time to find and fix a very persistent memory leak, but I finally succeeded. On a local machine, running basexserver, the entire server protocol can be handled without error messages. The only thing I couldn't test yet was the use of a websocket to a remote machine, and that now appears to be causing problems. On an old PC, I installed a minimal version of Fedora 43 that does not use GNOME. Basexserver runs without any problems and I can create new users in basexclient. Local use of my client does not cause any problems. But when I want to create a websocket to the test machine, I get the error message “setsockopt: Bad file descriptor”. After several attempts using the IP address instead of the machine name, both my laptop and the test PC crashed, and I had to reinstall basex. Hello, Lately we have quite a few new threads dedicated to UI improvements. Here is one more. Two web pages, accessible from https://basex.org/download/: · Latest developer snapshot (https://files.basex.org/releases/latest/) · Previous versions (https://files.basex.org/releases/) are not displaying correctly links while Dark Theme is used in (1) MS Edge and (2) Brave browsers. A white band is overlapping/hiding actual links for the files. Steps to turn on a Dark Theme in the Brave browser: - Type brave://flags into the address bar and press Enter. - Search for "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" or "Force Dark Mode for Web Contents". - Change the dropdown from "Default" to "Enabled" or select a specific inversion style (like "Enabled with selective inversion"). - Relaunch the browser when prompted. changing the BaseX GUI menu font

Hello -- So I've successfully added the JTattoo themes mentioned in the documentation https://jtattoo.de/index.html These work, in that new theme names appear and the BaseX GUI application looks different when I select different themes from the list. What they don't seem to do is provide any way to change the font size of the menus or the editor tabs with the file name in them. (The JTattoo themes do provide antialiasing, which is welcome.) It's a high resolution monitor and a notional 40 point font in the editor looks about right; the 11 or 12 point font to which the tabs and menus default is hard to read. I am forming the impression that there might be some sort of global base font setting somewhere but I have no idea where I'd even start looking. (The themes that appear built in to the BaseX GUI also work; I presume those live in the JDK somewhere?) Is there some sort of -Djdk.controlFont.size setting available? I'm using Linux (with LXQt as the window manager); I'm using OpenJDK 25.0.1 and BaseX 12.2. Thanks! Graydon

JDBC drivers location

Hello, Congrats on the BaseX 12.2 release! It seems that I bumped into a minor issue on a machine with MS Windows OS. My XQuery is using SQL module, and for that I am using Microsoft JDBC Driver for SQL Server. In particular, its mssql-jdbc-13.2.1.jre11.jar file needs to be in the ~basex\lib directory. It looks like that in-place update from the BaseX 12.1 to BaseX 12.2 deleted the ~basex\lib\mssql-jdbc-13.2.1.jre11.jar file. I received an error message. The solution was very simple, I copied the missing mssql-jdbc-13.2.1.jre11.jar file to the same location, restarted the BaseX GUI, and database calls started to work again. As a test, I deleted Microsoft jar in the ~\basex\lib\ and copied it to the ~\basex\lib\custom\ And database calls started to work again. The documentation says the following: "..If you work with the full distributions of BaseX, you can copy the driver into the lib directory..." https://docs.basex.org/main/SQL_Functions IMHO, it is better to update BaseX documentation, and recommend to copy JDBC *.jar files to the ~\basex\lib\custom\ directory. Hello (and Happy New Year!) I'm on Linux (Fedora) using BaseX 12.1 and OpenJDK Runtime Environment (Red_Hat-25.0.1.0.8-3) (build 25.0.1+8) I've got some data, which I want BaseX to load by the individual document using the doc() function. On one of these documents I get a parsing failure that reports JAXP00010001; if I look that up, I find https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/24-relnote-issues.html which says this limit changed (from a traditional larger number) to 2500, so now the error text is `JAXP00010001: The parser has encountered more than "2500" entity expansions in this document; this is the limit imposed by the JDK` It's a large file and I can't do anything about that part, nor can I do anything about the number of entity references these files happen to have when I get them. (In this particular case, a bit more than five thousand.) The Oracle page lists a bunch of options for how to set a different entity expansion limit. In context of BaseX, what's the right way to adjust the entity expansion limit (in my case, generally the BaseX GUI) so these files will parse? Thanks! Graydon
