Hi Christian, I'm trying to compile and build the basex-core. All is going quit well except that one testrun is failing which results in not being able to build the basex-core. I started the process from within the basex-core-directory with the command: mvn -U clean install. After a zillion test almost as last the "org.basex.server.LockingTest" fails with the message: java.lang.AssertionError: Parallel execution expected at org.junit.Assert.fail<Assert.java:88> at org.junit.Assert.assertTrue<Assert.java:41> at org.junit.Assert.LockingTest.testQueries<LockingTest.java:125> at org.junit.Assert.LockingTest. LockingTest.<LockingTest.java:146> I'm running on a simple windows-system with windows vista home edition. No apache-serve running. Can you give me a hint to get the basex-core build? TIA. Returning REST Response From Updating Function

I'm trying to understand how to use db:output() in the context of a REST function that does a bunch of stuff that updates and then wants to return a result. I have my updating functions using db:output() to return XML elements that are log entries, which I have up to now then formatted as HTML for return by the Web app. However, there doesn't appear to be a way to get the stuff returned by db:output before it gets returned to the ultimate caller. Have I missed something? My REST-handling function is declared as %updating: declare %updating %rest:path("/repo/{$repo}/{$branch}/updateLinkManagementIndexes") Which I understand to be a requirement if the function itself calls any updating functions. I tried e.g.: let $result := f:myUpdatingFunction() return db:output(f:formatLogItems($result)) But that results in the "no updating functions" message on the variable assignment. RESTXQ: Call a Page With A Parameter That Does not Persist in the URL

In the context of my RESTXQ Web service that uses web:redirect, when the process is done I want to return to the original page and on that page display a message indicating that the process succeeded or failed. My initial attempt was simply to redirect to the page and use a query parameter to convey the message. The REST handler then checks for the message and if present shows it in the generated page. The problem I'm running into is that the query parameter persists in the URL so if the user refreshes the page the message is still there, even though it's no longer relevant. There must be a way to do what I want but I'm not sure what it is. Based on my research I think I can do a form POST instead of a GET but that seems kind of heavy weight. Unknown error - BXCE001

Hi, I've been struggling with this error for quite a while now and still don't have a clue why it is raised. Caused by: javax.xml.xquery.XQException: BXCE001 - at net.xqj.basex.bin.b.<init>(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.a.a(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.d.a(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.E.a(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.H.executeQuery(Unknown Source) There is no text description for this. First I thought it was something related to memory, but now I don't think this is the reason. As you can see, I am using BaseX XQJ, and it is version 1.4. BaseX is 8.1. It seems that my application receives this exception a little bit (4 seconds) before server tries to send the response back. This is what I get from server side: 15:29:20.050 127.0.0.1:49514 admin REQUEST FULL[0] 5727205.52 ms 15:29:20.050 127.0.0.1:49514 admin ERROR Can't communicate with the server. 0.12 ms It is a complex query, and it takes a while to respond. Query plan: long printing

Getting More Diagnostic Info From DBA Query Runner?

I'm using the DBA web app to test and debug my Web app and underlying queries. However, when there are runtime errors it only reports the error, but not the code that produced it. Is there any way for the query runner to report what module/function/line the error resulted from? Or is that information in a log somewhere? Hi, calling the test-xsl function does not work (might be a bug). I think returning a document fragment from xsl is not forbidden (at least exist-db permits it). Custom URI resolver

Hello, I want to import a XSL transformation into another by name as it is already possible with XQuery modules - a pitty that this doesn't work with XSL transformations imported via expath package. Furthermore I want to restrict file system access in XSL transformations and xqueries. As far as I understand it to do both I need to define a custom URI resolver - Please tell me if there is a better way. Thus my question is: How can I register a central URI resolver to be used by both XSLT and XQuery? I work with BaseX 8.2.3 and Saxon-HE 9.6.0-6 directly with Context and LocalSession objects in Java. I've read http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Catalog_Resolver and registered a catalog file via SET CATFILE but it doesn't seem to be used in XSL transformations. I've also tried it with Apache XML resolver in the classpath. For Saxon I tried to register the CatalogResolver explicitly by setting the system property http://saxon.sf.net/feature/uriResolverClass to org.apache.xml.resolver.tools.CatalogResolver and writing a CatalogManager.properties file without effect. Merging databases?

Hi, Is there a simple, fast way to merge databases? For example, suppose I have 200 databases, each with 5 XML documents, and the document paths are unique across all the databases. I want to produce a database containing all 1000 documents. I looked in the Database Module wiki and nothing jumped out as being uniquely tailored for this task. I'm sure there is an ad hoc way to do it by looping over the documents in the databases, exporting them, and adding them to the new database. But if that takes the same amount of time as building the 200 databases in the first place, I should change other things about my design to avoid the need to merge databases. Thanks, Amanda

Hello, please make sure to always cc the mailing list, as we can't provide personalized support for free, but we try to supports as much as possible on our mailing list, but others should benefit from it as well. However, I have to say that I have the feeling you lack a basic understand of Java and you might be better of learning Java fundamentals first. Also, given that you said you are still in school you might want to ask your lecturer or a TA to give you hands-on help. Having said that, you simply have to do a new Check("mydatabase").execute(context); with context holding a Context object. Please take a look at the source code example I linked to in the last mail, it really follows the exact same principle. Option Parallel Verständnisfrage

Hallo, ich habe eine Verständnisfrage bezüglich der Option "Parallel". Ich wollte mir einen Überblick über die Geschwindigkeit von BaseX machen bezüglich mehrerer Benutzeranfragen. Ich verwende Basex 7.7. Ich habe mir ein Java Programm mit Multithreads geschrieben, welches das ganze simuliert. Das Script funktioniert soweit auch und es werden mir im BaseX die Session für jeden Benutzer angezeigt. Als erstes hab ich Parallel auf 20 gesetzt. Mir ist dabei aufgefallen das es pro Benutzer immer langsamer wird und die CPU-Auslastung nicht wirklich hoch ist. Wird das ganze gar nicht Parallel abgearbeitet ? Verteilt BaseX die Last nicht auf die CPU´s?? Danach hab ich Parallel auf 1 gesetzt. Das Ergebnis ist schneller als Parallel 20, das dürfte bei einer sequenziellen Abarbeitung nicht sein oder ?? Das ganze System läuft auf einem HP Server mit 64 GB Arbeitsspeicher einer PCI SSD Festplatte und einem Intel Xeon E5-2690 8-Core 2.90 GHz Prozessor. Könnt ihr mir da vielleicht eine Erklärung liefern ? Ich hab das ganze nochmal in Englisch geschrieben. I use Basex 7.7. I have a Java program written with multi-threads, to simulating this. The script works well so far and the session for each user are displayed in BaseX. First I set "parallel" to 20. I've noticed that it is getting slower for each user and the CPU utilization is not really high. Will not parallel processed? Distributes the load on the CPU not BaseX ?? Then I got the same and set "parallel" to 1. The result is faster than parallel 20, that should not be in a sequential processing or ?? The whole system runs on an HP server with 64GB of RAM PCI SSD hard drive and an Intel Xeon E5-2690 8-core 2.90 GHz processor. Can you provide an explanation as me, maybe? BaseX 7.9 problem

Hello ! I have an exception throw on BaseX 7.9 I've just installed it on a linux box, in /usr/local/basex-79, owned by root, chowned -R a+wr *, and run by another user. basexclient and modules

Hello ! we would like to execute thru basexclient a xquery script that includes a xquery module : xquery encoding "utf-8"; declare namespace db="http://basex.org/modules/db"; import module namespace om-ll='http://els.eu/ns/efl/offresMetiers/CreateCIActu/lowLevel' at 'lowLevel.xqm'; With basexgui and basex CLI, no problem. But with basexclient, it seems included files are not send to server, so server can not resolve dependencies, and compile xquery. I can understand that compilation must be done on server-side - well, at least optimization - but client could parse the .xq file to check if there are imports, and either push them to server, or throw an error without accessing the server. Is this an issue ? Is there an utility-tool which allows to generates a single script file from a .xq and included .xqm, that I could use before running basexclient ? Best regards, Christophe

Union of maps?

Hi -- In BaseX 8.2.1, I have a bunch of maps; the maps may have some overlap of key values. I would like to merge/find the union of all of these maps while retaining all the values associated with each key in the resulting map-of-all-maps. (Combined map? Any word can be wrong, here! :) map:merge() doesn't do this; http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Map_Module#map:merge says "The associated value for each such key is taken from the last map in the input sequence $input that contains an entry with this key." and testing confirms this. Is there a straightforward way to do this that I'm missing? Thanks! Graydon

Full memory database

Hello, is there a way to put all the databases in memory ? We have a 30Gb database, serving as repository for XInclude-like resolution, and I want to avoid disk access (I work with Marc Messeant...) Using special JVM, I can allocate many memory, and so want to work only in memory. Is this possible ? Best regards, Christophe
