Optimize Exception

Hi all, unfortunately during a nightly backup + optimize procedure the VM on which we run an "older" 7.7.2 basex server went out of disk space. This morning I've been able to recover partially. I've been able to take a backup and to recreate the indexes with the "create index *" command. Now the system is operating again and clients are inserting data. The automated procedure is based however on the use of the optimize command which is the only thing that has not restarted to work yielding ArrayIndexOutOfBound Exception. Will it be necessary (sufficient?) to reinstall a fresh version and reimport the backup or is there another way out? Thanks a lot for any hints. M.

Ripple of effect of db corruption

Hi, In the end of May we had issue with a BaseX release that was corrupting our DBs. We were able to identify this pattern: 1) Update/insert @status on the root element of multiple files. Eveything seems fine here, but something occured that made the DB unstable. We can read data without problem. 2) Change the status a second time, DBs gets corrupted. We didn't track all operations that occured during that period, but now that we are running a new translation process. We are updating the various language DBs and we are ovewhelmed by corrupted DBs. We thought we had rolled back all the problematic DBs, and apparently we missed some as issues are popping here and there. I am writing with the hope that you remember an issue with the end of May release and that you can send details on tracking issues before they show up and/or know of a way to resolve the issue before the second run of updates. Rolling back means that we lose a full run of translation and we have nearly 30 languages, which means 30 DBs, so it's not a small job to roll them back and run translation again. internal database format changes between 7.X and 8.0 versions

Dear all @BaseX, We are currently in the process of reloading a huge volume of data (about 47 Go of zipped xml), And wondering if we can safely do that in the 8.0 beta version. JSON or JSONML output formatting

Hello, I've been playing with BaseX lately and all-in-all am very impressed. Something I'm wrestling with however is the JSON output options. I've got various web applications that would really be simplified by receiving JSON straight away for the obvious scripting benefits. The JSON method has been giving me a lot of grief, stipulating rules I'm not sure how to follow. right now I have an element that "is typed as string and cannot be nested." I've been able to get JSONML to output but the JSON is this morass of nested Arrays... Attributes seem to get transformed into Objects but elements/tags and their values are pushed into Arrays for some rationale - which I suppose is on purpose. My question is how can I get Objects for simple key:value properties from <tag>value</tag> 's. Are there options I'm not utilizing? Would it be feasible to transform the XML output to some middle form first - setting it up to become Objects, before serializing it to JSON? Thanks! Cannot get MIXUPDATES working

This is with basex 7.9 on Windows I am trying to get (RESTXQ) queries to run with MIXUPDATES. I tried adding MIXUPDATES = true to each of the sections in the .basex file. For all but the last section (# Local Options) the MIXUPDATES line would be deleted upon startup of basexhttp.bat So if I would add the line to the top under # General Options and then start the http server I would get: >basexhttp -d C:/apps/basex/.basex: Unknown option 'MIXUPDATES'. C:/apps/basex/.basex: writing new configuration file. Hi, ok - guess I need to dig deeper into constraints of a "two phase commit" then... So, when using the core-API in embedded mode, the preferred way would be to create a new Thread per query - somewhat like the ClientListener does in server mode? Hi, while trying to understand the locking internals I stumbled over DBLocking.java#L106 (in core) which throws an Exception when the same thread tries to get a lock again. The Java documentation states that ReentrantReadWriteLock should be able to handle this [1], are there any extra-conditions that make this neccessary? JSON output in PHP client

I've been playing a bit with BaseX the last couple of days - and very excited about the product while doing so - but now I am having problems outputting JSON from a PHP script. I have this XQuery: declare option output:method "json"; declare option output:json "format=jsonml"; <json type="object"> { for $user in collection("saveresult")//user[_id="1f2cda8f-a18a-44ba-8d17-73626d472306"] return <testResults> <testId>{$user/test/_id}</testId> <grade>{$user/user_info/user_grade}</grade> </testResults> } </json> In the BaseX GUI this yields: ["json", {"type":"object"}, ["testResults", ["testId", ["_id", "Bio-1"]], ["grade", ["user_grade", "7"]]], ["testResults", ["testId", ["_id", "Bio-2"]], ["grade", ["user_grade", "1"]]]] Which is what I expected after reading about the JSONML format. (Not too happy with that format, but that's another story). Running exactly the same XQuery form within a PHP script however yields this: <json type="object"> <testResults> <testId> <_id>Bio-1</_id> </testId> <grade> <user_grade>7</user_grade> </grade> </testResults> <testResults> <testId> <_id>Bio-2</_id> </testId> <grade> <user_grade>1</user_grade> </grade> </testResults> </json> (script is attached; note that the $ signs have been escaped there so that PHP will not try to evaluate them) In other words, the result is being output as XML with an enclosing <json> root tag, not as JSON. Status of multipart

Hello all, I would like to know what the status of multipart HTTP request currently is. I read from the docs that it's experimental but to me it feels like there's currently a regression (is there any working example?). I have some requests that were working correctly up to 7.6.1 AFAIR. only QueryPlan

Hi, I'm trying to obtain de QueryPlan without executing the query. I try the -x -R flags on the basexclient, but with the -R flag I only receive the optimized query, not the plan. With the GUI I can stop before the end and I have the QP, but I don't know how to do that with the client. Thank's for help Marc

I am trying to fetch an url page http://www.ruya-tabirleri.com/ruyada-adam-gormek.html that has Turkish characters in it. Hi Paul, please make sure to reply to the list, so all of our users can benefit :) I think I got your question correctly. It doesn't matter whether you use your personal computer or a server. Assuming you run linux, you can simply run the bin/basexserver script and the BaseX server starts up. There is no need to install it. The different language bindings we provide (see https://docs.basex.org/wiki/Clients) use our Client/Server protocol (see https://docs.basex.org/wiki/Server_Protocol), implementing the Client in the specific language. So in all these cases, you need a running BaseX server (which you can run as said above, some more documentation is available at https://docs.basex.org/wiki/Database_Server). On your web server, you need the permission to simply run a program. Based on what you write (correct me if I am wrong) I get the feeling you are running on one of the many cheap web domain hosts, where you basically connect with FTP to upload files and use PHP/MySQL to run your webpage. Am I correct? You will need a bit more to run BaseX, because you need the right to execute a program by yourself (i.e. ssh access). PHP files are only interpreted, because your provider is running a web server with PHP integration already for you. As they most likely will not already run BaseX for you (what a shame!), you will have to run it yourself - Which means you have to be able to execute programs. Please note, this is not a problem applying to BaseX, it would be the same for every other program you would like to run. However, the servers I have access to do not support Java - or if they do, I do not have the rights to install BaseX. Do I need to find a hosting party that supports Java apps? Or maybe there are public BaseX servers that can be accessed? How to proceed? Regards, Paul

For Mac users: I just bumped BaseX in Homebrew to the current stable version, which just got merged; the update is available by running `brew update && brew upgrade basex`. Java interop (java.net.URI) problem

Hola, So, this is my very first post here. I started my first 'serious' xquery project after doing xslt mostly for a long long time. Soon I hope to put something on github. I needed to parse information from a URL and thought I could use java.net.URI instead of doing the hairy URI string parsing myself. As far as I can see this should work according to the documentation. But it's not: declare namespace uri = "java.net.URI"; let $uri := uri:new('http://basex.org') return uri:get-host($uri) It gives me: [FORG0006] Invalid call of Java function: URI.getHost(xs:anyURI). Any idea what I'm doing wrong here? --Marc

Dear subscribers, in the midst of summertime, we provide you with a great new version of BaseX, our XML database system and XQuery 3.0 processor! This is what you get: XQUNIT - Unit testing has been improved a lot. All test functions will now be evaluated separately; this way, updates can be performed within test. - with the new TEST command, all test modules in a specified directory can be evaluated. - tests can be invoked from within the GUI editor and project view. - on command-line, the -t flag can be used for the same purpose. RESTXQ - Custom HTTP methods can be defined via %rest:method - Error handling has been improved and aligned with try/catch REST - The "run" operation allows execution of server-side command scripts DATABASE MODULE - parsing options added to db:create, db:add and db:replace As usual, various minor bugs and inconsistencies have been fixed in the latest version; check out our documentation and the GitHub history for more details! BaseX 8.0 and millions of documents

Dear all, Will BaseX 8.0 address the speed problem when it comes to replace a document in a several millions documents' collection ? How to prevent formatting of specific nodes

Hi, Using org.basex.io.serial.Serializer to serialize nodes from a DB, I want to be able to prevent formatting/indentation of specific nodes. For example: <body> <pre><b>test</b></pre> </body> When serializing something like that, the output will be: <body> <pre> <b>test</b></pre> </body> The desired output would be: <body> <pre><b>test</b></pre> </body> I.e. the pre elements must not be indented. I only found this parameter for the serializer cdata-section-elements Which I guess would enclose the contents of the pre elements by CDATA: <body> <pre><![CDATA[<b>test</b>]]></pre> </body> Which would not be the desired output. Thanks!
