USPTO XML format causes BaseX GUI errors

Hi, I am new to BaseX and will attempt to use it to analyze xml datasets from R at some point in the near future. I am using a BaseX GUI under Windows-7 operating system and had an error while trying to create a database using the GUI by using an XML file as input. The file comes from the US Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO), and the larger XML datasets they provide have the same problem. The error text is: Command: CREATE DB ipgb20110104Sample C:/Users/admin/Downloads/ipgb20110104Sample.xmlError:"C:/Users/admin/Downloads/ipgb20110104Sample.xml" (Line 306): The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed. The XML document I am trying to open is contained in this zip file: http://www.uspto.gov/products/ipgb110104-sample.zip The link to the document is in this page: http://www.uspto.gov/products/xml-resources.jsp under the "Patent Grant Data / XML ST. 36 (ICE) v4.2 (a.k.a. Red Book) (2007 - 2012)" section of the page, under the "Sample Documents (Bibliographic)" bulletpoint >From searching online, I found that the error is because of poor formatting in the file. However, larger datasets of the same kind (USPTO bulk download @ Google) have the same problem. In the specific case of the file I mention, it has a carriage return in the first line, and then has several concatenated XML files, which is the case of the larger XML files from the USPTO. My question is: Is there a work around to this error/problem? Can I somehow tell BaseX to ignore or somehow acknowledge that mistake and load the file(s). Thank you so much, Jose -- Jose I. How to change processor to Saxon

Using based to publish TEI-XML files, allows to take benefits from the Java's environment using XSLT 2.0. But we didn't cope with putting Saxon in the Classpath for BaseX. Is there any simple steps doing it ? On a mac, we were able to do it by putting the Saxon's jar files into `/Library/Java/Extensions/` Running basexhttp, the expression `xslt:processor()` returns "Saxon" and `xslt:version()` returns "2.0". On an ubuntu machine, there is no such directory for Java. We've first tried to set the CLASSPATH with `export CLASSPATH=/usr/share/java/saxon9he.jar` (and various other things) unhopely without success. Your help would be very welcome ! [FORG0006] Unknown method:

I am getting this error when I call a java method from inside xquery script. I am using basex 7.8.2 Java constructor initialization (aBlob:new) went fine. Even I can call close method w/o any issue. but when I call insertImage3 in xquery script, I am getting error [FORG0006] Unknown method I compiled the class into jar file and put it into libs folder of basex installation folder. I am using basexgui.bat to open basex gui that will load all jars in libs folder. Is there anything I could not see here? May 26th snapshot and very slow batch processing

Hi, I updated to the May 26th snapshot and one batch process that used to take 45 seconds now takes more than 25 minutes to run. A couple of months ago we had that issue, we were asked if we were updating files that use namespaces... and then that lead to a new snapshot. I never got the details of the issue, but this has a very familiar feel. Error handling

Hello all, the error interception functions are pretty useful. My "feature request" here is whether it could be possible to overcome: "XQuery runtime errors can be processed via /error annotations/. A single argument must be supplied, which represents the QName of the error to be caught. A wildcard |*| may be specified to catch all possible errors. A function can only have a single error annotation:" It could be useful to have at least a second level of wildcards on the QName prefix in order to be able to differentiate behaviours according to categories of errors. |%rest:error||(||"ns1:*"||)| A more fine grained filtering (i.e. comma separated list of exception codes) could also be useful but since I don't understand the difficulty of building this into the code I won't ask too much. The only alternative I see at the moment is a single function with a switch or a lot of replicated functions. What is your opinion on this? Thanks and regards, Marco.

ArrayOutofBound exception on snapshot

Hello all, we are investigating on the latest snapshot in order to check how our code cleans up itself when reducing the overhead of the "updating" code by using MIXED UPDATES. We started experiencing the Index out of bound Exception on a particular insert of a complex XML document. I worked heavily on reducing the document to the smallest example that causes the exception getting to this: <a b="1" c="2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <item x="1" w="2"/> <n value="1" xsi:type="xs:string"/> <n value="2" xsi:type="xs:string"/> </a> Any change that reduces the XML causes the db:add to work. When inserting directly with db:add it works. When putting the same db:add in a restxq it still works. I get the error: Stopped at ., 1/10: Syntax: OPEN [name] ([path]) Open database. Opens the database [name], filtered by [path]. Dynamic Module Loading

Hello, Exist-db has an util:import-module<http://exist-db.org/exist/apps/fundocs/view.html?uri=http://exist-db.org/xq…>function that allows to dynamically import an XQuery module at run time. I haven't found anything equivalent in BaseX. Is that right ? I have also tried to see how to implement such a function directly in Java, but as far as I understand the module parsing process, functions prefix are checked at compile time. That would compromise any attempt to write such a function. Am I right ? -i command line option

Am trying to run BaseX form the command shell to execute a xquery on a specific database. I'm however a bit confused by the -i command line option. If I start BaseX as follows: java -Xmx512m -cp "/Users/pascal/git/dwb/lib/BaseX77.jar" -Dorg.basex.DBPATH=../BaseXdata org.basex.BaseX -*ifoo* which is expected to open the foo database, and from the prompt try to run: > xquery count(*) This returns a count of 0 However, if I type > info database I get the proper output about the current database (vs "No database opened" if none was selected). Hi all, we are rather interested in experimenting with the new facility provided with the latest snapshot mixupdates. I have a question related to the scope of the mixupdates option. For us (using the GUI) neither declaring the option at module level with declare option db:mixupdates 'true'; nor inlining it with a pragma as in declare function local:sample() { (# db:mixupdates 'true' #){ let $d := <a></a> return (replace node $d/b with <d/>, "Success") } }; prevent the compiler from complaining with: "... all expressions must be updating or return an empty sequence". Instead it works neatly when the option is set in the .basex file. Is setting the option globally for the whole basex instance the only way to enable the compiler for mixed updates? Regards, Marco.

Rest Access from javascript using AngularJs

Hi, After xmlprague and my presentation at the BaseX user group I was told (and I agree) that it wasn't really smart to use php for what I was building as it had almost no added value as I could directly query basex using the Rest Interface. Does anyone as some example using either angularjs or jquery ? I think I'm struggling with the login.
