Any way to access attributes directly from XQItem class?

Hi all, I have a question regarding the XQItem class from the XQJ apis. Let's say that I have a XQResultSequence obtained from executing a query, with the result sequence containing a number of XQItem objects. If I were to print each of them as strings they would look like: <CUSTOMER UserID="abc" Password="123"/> How can I access the attributes in this XQItem directly? Must I write a parser for this, or is there an easier way? Regards, Roy

XQuery development and Access through URL

Hello all, I am new to BaseX. I am using the war file, deployed to tomcat and looking for a way to create an xquery file and execute this query through a URL. For example, under WEB-INF/repo/hello.xq and call it with http://localhost:8080/BaseX/hello Any modification for the xquery file, will be reflected in the next URL request. Does BaseX support something like this ?? Thank you.

Alternative to XQDT ?

Hello, I am developing using Eclipse, together with the integrated xquery editor provided by XQDT. This last editor does not seem to support xquery 3.0 syntax. I can survive, but there are a lot of nice functionality that are not working anymore (for instance the outline windows). Does someone know any alternative to XQDT editor that could integrate with eclipse and is xquery 3.0 compliant ? Cheers Jean-Marc

Basex Gui as server client?

Hello all, I am trying to run basex as a system daemon in ubuntu linux, and I have managed to get the server up and running on its own home dir, etc[1]. I can connect to the server with both the supplied basexclient CLI utility, and with my own perl client (using a local implementation of the server API), however, I am incapable of instructing the GUI client to use the system server... I can connect to the system server using the "Server administration dialog", that works and shows users, sessions and databases for the running system server, but when I tried opening a database, it complains that it can't faind any... I assume because it is looking for them in my user home dir. I can see the server dbs if i enter the server data path (ie, /var/lib/baxsex ) as "database path" in the GUI preferences, but i obviously get a "permission denied" error when trying to open them as local dbs. Can the GUI client be used to connect to a running (maybe even remote) server instance? How? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks! jta. SET GLOBAL OPTION DBPATH

Dear Christian, Basex Previous versions like 6.7 supported to set GLOBAL OPTION "DBPATH" by user choice, So when we are creating collections we are setting one DBPATH for one collection as per our functionality by using below sample code.. for collection1: -------------- Context context = new Context(); new Set("dbpath","dbpath1).execute(context);// Here we are setting DBPATH new CreateDB("collection1").execute(context); for collection2: -------------- Context context = new Context(); new Set("dbpath","dbpath2).execute(context);// Here we are setting another DBPATH new CreateDB("collection2").execute(context); But when changing Basex6.7 to Basex7.2 version, we are unable to set GLOBAL OPTION "DBPATH" . As per our R&D the DBPATH getting form one of the system property "org.basex.path", once we are set system property unable to change it as for our functionality we have to set different DBPATHS like above code.... when we are trying to set DBPATH like above code we are getting below Exception org.basex.core.BaseXException: Global option 'DBPATH' cannot be set. server side restxq calls

Hi, during implementing my website based on BaseX with restxq, I run into a problem. In BaseX it is only possible to execute either updating or non-updating xquery expressions in a function. So if I want to mix updating with non-updating expressions I have to execute a restxq call (updating) which forwards to another restxq call (non-updating). I know the possibility of using db:output("some non-updating expression"), but I guess it is not the right way if I only use updating-functions with db:output(...). Like: declare updating function ns:foo(...) { db:output("some code") } So my idea is to execute server side restxq calls, like: restxq:call("user/1"), which delivers the output of the function behind. I tried out going the external way with http:send-request(<http:request method='get' href="https://localhost:8443/user/1"/>). But I get problems with the SSL connection. If I open another non-SSL basex server a different port it is not possible to execute restxq calls as well, because of the jetty security module I use. So are there any clever ideas either to mix updating with non-updating functions (and not abuse transaction security) or do server side restxq calls? Best regards, Florian

Hi Cong, BaseX XQJ supports XQuery 3.0, XQuery Update Facility as well as XQuery Full Text. If you are executing an XQuery Update expression and the BaseX XQJ driver is producing an XQException where BaseX was never even contacted in the first place, then this is a bug in BaseX XQJ. Hello Christian, I have some small questions over the profile module. 1) The following code declare function local:sequence($nb){for $i in 1 to xs:integer($nb) return $i}; prof:time(fn:count(local:sequence(1000000000000000000))) return 4.94 ms. It means that you lazy evaluate the query "{for $i in 1 to xs:integer($nb) return $i" ? (I recall that you already mentioned this point that but I would like a confirmation, since it might be a profiler issue) 2) It seems that you somehow call the fn:trace function in the profile module. Is there a way to catch the returned values of these functions ? The motivation is for profiling purposes. To be more specific, I would like to treat the output results as <output @function = "my_function">{prof:time( "xquery" ) }</output> to be able to aggregate results at a higher level of call, i.e. something like for $output in $prof//output let $fun := data($output/@function) group by $fun return element-name{$fun}{sum(data($output) ) } Thanks Jean-Marc

BaseX Failing After a Number of Requests

Hi Guys, We have implemented BaseX to provide a REST API to access specific information out of the database. Databases range in size from hundreds to 6000+ XML files, and the APIs use the attribute index to quickly locate nodes and return information about them. We have been noticing that BaseX has been randomly failing after a number of requests in the range of several hundred. I can replicate the failure in a few minutes by looping curl requests from the command line. The failure is made apparent by a valid request returning a Jetty 404 Error: HTTP ERROR 404 > > Problem accessing { redacted URL }. Reason: > > No function found that matches the request. > > ------------------------------ > *Powered by Jetty://* > This message is the same message that is thrown when requesting a URL that does not have a matching path, but this request is valid, and has been used before. It appears that the issue is the BaseX server failing somehow, but I can't track the reason. No information is logged at the time of the crash. If I connect to the BaseX server (on port 1984) using the basexclient, it connects, but reports that there are no databases available. Once I restart the service, I can reconnect, and it lists all databases as it should. Any ideas what might be causing these issues? Thanks, Jeremy

BaseX Evaluation for Big Data

I'm evaluating BaseX to use in a project that involves 10s of TB of xml data. Our goal is to be able to return a small amount of data from a query within a few seconds. Is BaseX capable of handling this much data? My initial evaluation of 1GB of data met our requirements. But, when I evaluated BaseX using about 20GB of data I get an out of memory message when I run a query. I'm running Windows 7 Pro on a Core i7, 8GB memory, and using the BaseX GUI. Hi Gary, Maybe you should wait for BaseX team members advises over this topic. Telling from my own experience, I can remember also having met some problem trying to insert 20 Gb of data into BaseX through the GUI. I had to achieve this into smaller steps, using batch commands (see http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Commands), in order to free memory. i.e. I first inserted the xml into 4 or 5 passes. Then created some indexes, etc...In that way it was possible to run the insertion, even with 4Gb machines. Node Insertion through XQJ and XSD Validation

Greetings, I've just started reading through the materials on XQJ and would like to ask the following: Let's say I have a simple XML file (I'll use the W3Schools Xquery tutorial): 1. Can I have an example query of how I could insert another book node into this file? 2. If I would like to perform schema validation through XSD, how should I change the code? - eg. Hi, To report a small issue in the inspect functions module with %private declaration. The following code runs perfectly : declare %private function local:test(){()}; for $fun in inspect:functions() return "gotcha" However, If the function test is located in another module, say test, then the following code import module namespace test="http://www.example.com/test" at test.xq"; for $fun in inspect:functions() return "gotcha" raise an exception. the slf4j in basex is 1.5.8, compatibility issue took place

Hello there: When I use basex with a gradle project, it failed at runtime because of a transitive dependency problem: basex used slf4j 1.5.8, and the other packages in the projects used higher version. I attempted to resolve this by following this link, it didn't work: http://forums.gradle.org/gradle/topics/how_to_exclude_transitive_dependency Do you guys have plan to upgrade the slf4j in basex? I still prefer to use the repo as opposed to building my own jar out of the source. thanks, Johnny

Hi all When importing CSV files, it seems that BaseX is parsing fields for balanced bracketing and quotes (a single quote or bracket causes trouble). Is it possible to turn that off, so that files are processed based only on delimiter? I couldn't find any information in the documentation. All the best, Lars

Hi together, I have a question regarding the baseX add command. We change the user.dir system property in the basexserver.bat as shown below: java -Duser.dir=c:/tmp -cp "%CP%" %VM% org.basex.BaseXServer %* This is done with the background of defining an export/import directory without using absolute paths with the add command itself (we deploy our setup from version control to different directory environments, and it should work "out-of-the-box"). 1. With exporting, this seems to work fine except for a minor issue: in addition to the successful export to c:\tmp, an empty folder is created in the basex/bin directory with the name of the exported db. 2. With adding, we always get the error message " Resource "C:/tmp/test.xml" not found.", even if test.xml exists in the filesystem at c:\tmp. However, if we copy test.xml to the basex/bin-folder, the add command is successful. It seems that though the error message relates to the correct (modified) path, baseX uses the default one when trying to add the file? Would it be possible to fix this issue, or is there another way to achieve the intended behavior? Best Regards Simon

Results from ft:extract()

Hello all When using ft:extract() on nodes, it seems to clip into the match itself too often. Is it possible to have ft:extract() leave as much before the match as after? For example, here are two results for "spise lunsj" (= eat lunch (language is Norwegian)) the first is as it should be, while the second have half of the matched string clipped . The result is obtained first as a set of hits using fulltext search [text() contains text {$terms} all], then each hit is processed through ft:extract($hit, $terms): ... gjerne komme for å spise lunsj med meg på Harrods. Da skal jeg servere hjortetestikler fra eiendommen min i Skottland. Vi trenger nemlig alle store... ... de franske VM-spillerne hjem til Paris.
