Hi all, After migration to BaseX77, db:optimize is running into an exception: java.io.IOException: Stopped at ., 8/20: [java] [FOUP0002] Database 'xxx' is currently opened by another process. Before migration, I used BaseX761-20130303.204518, and this version worked well. I have an additional question: My task is to read objects from a file and replace (if already exists) or insert (if new) the objects in the database. The key is a specific attribute (@n). Parallel threads could exist. Could you suggest a better solution? Inserts into root nodes within if statements

Hi there, i'm confused about following behavior. Consider the query: "insert node <c/> into /" it evaluates perfectly if a DB is opened within the BaseX Gui (7.7). But if i put it into an if statement like: "if(true())then insert node <c/> into / else()" i got the error message that the if statement is not complete. Adding a dot behind the slash solves the problem. "if(true())then insert node <c/> into /. else()" Is there a specific reason behind that? Regards and thanks in advanced, Marcel

Disable locking capability of BaseX

BaseX freezes, no error message on webpage or terminal

Hi, Setup: http server 7.6. Path to .dtd is in the form http:.../rest/path/mydtd.dtd. Test #1. I call the function that contains dtd:validate from a function. It works. Test #2. I call the function that contains dtd:validate from another function. It freezes. The only different I see is that the 2nd function is an updating function, so I am thinking deadlock. However, the function doesn't update the same DB that holds the file to validate or the .dtd file. How do I find out if this is a dead lock situation? And what would be my options to get out of it since I am not updating the same DB from which I read the content file or the .dtd file? Is there anyway to collect more information from the server to confirm the deadlock theory? The catch is not returning anything about being locked out either. The process doesn't seem to get pass the validate:dtd line in the try... it never makes it into the catch. Efficiencies for batching

Hi, Currently when I need to batch a database for processing I do something like this: for $record at $p in $recordSet where ($p ge $start) and ($p ge $end) return $record/process-record(.) I can imagine why this is more efficient. in BaseX, than using an XPath filter expression, as in $recordSet[position() ge $start and position() le $end]/process-record(.) (which is what I might prefer to do in other environments). But is the 'where' clause the best I can do? XQuery 3.0 has tumbling windows. I am not iterating over subsequences, but rather selecting one (arbitrary) subsequence from a sequence. What's my best approach to this in BaseX? Hi, I'm currently using BaseX as standard server (java) mode but I planning to switch http://nxdb.codeplex.com/ . (Embedded BaseX port in .Net) My application running as IIS process which has multiple instances and threads. My question is; is there any possible problems to access database at same time by different process/threads ? How do I use "archive:update" to add a new binary file to an existing archive?

Hello, unfortunately I do not get the archive:update function to work... I am using BaseX 7.6. Your sample to update text in a Word 2010 document works fine. Creating a new archive and extracting from an archive works fine too. When I try to update an existing archive with a new image file I get the error "element(archive:entry) or string expected, element() found. When running BaseX as a server and connecting to it my update statements are successful but when using BaseX from a jar inside the JVM - Database creation works fine - the update statements don't get committed - not visible to other clients or after restart - to the database. Select queries work fine. Question around JSON Serialization

Hey BaseX Team, Im trying to serialize some JSON in order to make a few calls to an external api. In the json I need to include 'html' for example: { "subject": "Test Subject", "content": { type: "text/html", text: "<div><h2>Issue:</h2></div> }, "type": "document"} When I call the following script however I get: { "subject": "Test Subject 10", "content": { "type": "text\/html", "text": "<html>\n <div>\n <h2>Issue:<\/h2>\n <\/div>\n<\/html>" }, "type": "document"} I tried messing with the serialization parameters however with no success. I tried using lower caps in the xs:include reference as I noticed that the .xsd files get renamed to lower caps on import (but not DTDs [because they were considered raw and unindexed?]). connection provblems with basex 7.6

Hi, I am running a server in Java on a linux machine and want to connect to it from a windows machine (either GUI or java code). It is not working. I get as a response that the connection is refused. On the linux machine the server is running - I see the port being listened on. The firewall is also open on that port - I can telnet the port and get a response. Any idea? I use these settings in .basex # Client/Server Architecture HOST = 130.89.1.182 PORT = 19840 SERVERPORT = 1984 EVENTPORT = 1985 USER = XXXX PASSWORD = XXXX SERVERHOST = silo1.ewi.utwente.nl thanbks in advance. best regards Andreas

Out of memory bug

Hello, I've got 'Out of memory' error and corrupted database again, this time it's for 6.3 version. Steps: 1. Started server, started terminal client, checked there are no text and attribute indexes. 2. Started my Java application that runs several tests on database: querying, adding, removing. 3. Then I forgot to reopen terminal client and used the one that I opened in Step 1. 4. Run optimize command for the collection and got error. 5. Cannot open the collection any more as I'm getting 'Out of memory'. It's clear that I shouldn't have used the terminal client that I opened before execution of my Java application. But sometimes it's hard to remember. And it's completely unacceptable that these actions result in the corrupted database. You really should catch ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException everywhere in order to save database from being corrupted. Terminal client stacktrace: > optimize Possible bug? Hi there, Setting CHOP=false in the .basex configuration solves my xslt issue but seems to have an ugly side-effect (bug?): Using basex commands in xml syntax is not working any more; if I call: basexclient.bat -c cmd.xml with the content of cmd.xml being (for example): <commands> <create-db name='xslt'/> </commands> it always returns " Syntax: <commands><...></commands>". Executing the same without CHOP=false in .basex works like a charm. Is there any chance this could be fixed? Xquery on streaming xml

Hi, Can we use basex for processing streaming xml. If yes, how?. The idea being: - Create a ramdisk/ram drive having size of about 10GB. - load the file into ram drive. - Use basex to stream the xml file during xquery evaluation. Once data is extracted from the xml file, the xml file will be deleted. Since this activity is transient in nature, the creation of xml database can be avoided. Regards Nesh

Hi Christian, I narrowed it down a little bit. Though turning it off in the xquery prologue as proposed did not help, the problem seems actually to be linked to the chopping option. What I did not mention in my first posting is that the xslts are also stored in a (second) basex database. What I found out is that the result of the transformation is ok (i.e. with all the line breaks required) if I *manually* create the database for the xslts in the basex-gui and *manually* set the chopping option to off in the creation window. Surprisingly, when I create the databases automatically using the following xml-snippet <commands> <set option='chop'>false</set> <create-db name='fromgme'/> <create-db name='export'/> <create-db name='xslt'/> </commands> All databases have chopping set to off according to the GUI, but still the line breaks are lost in the transformation ??? I also found this thread http://www.mail-archive.com/basex-talk@mailman.uni-konstanz.de/msg02257.html with a similar problem, however locally setting the chop value as proposed is no remedy for my problem. return (# db:chop "no" #) { xslt:transform($xml,$xslt) } Is there a possibility to disable chopping globally ?
