Hi, So I've got a client interested to create a dataset of music information such as artist, track name, album release year... and store that in XML. Non technical users would need to view and edit the music info in a web interface and the data would be stored in XML. I was looking at Typo3 which seems to be able to work with basex. I wonder what is the easiest approach to edit data in a browser and have that data stored as xml in basex? What are CMS solutions that work with basex? Is typo3 a good solution? Regards -- - Alex G. How to update DB with new XML Files??

Hi there, I am have stored one large document in BaseX DB. Now I want to add more to the same DB. Is there any simple way to do the same? Say, I had a file country.xml given below <Countries> <Country>A</Country> <Country>B</Country> <Country>C</Country> <Country>D</Country> </Countries> I stored this in BaseX DB. Now I have another file with same format <Countries> <Country>E</Country> <Country>F</Country> <Country>G</Country> <Country>H</Country> </Countries> I want this file to update the previous DB.... so that the DB will have in all 8 countries. Issue with expath HTTP request and response

Hi all, I want to share my experience with HTTP module while posting to restxq. Consider this example, -------- import module namespace http='http://expath.org/ns/http-client'; let $req := <http:request method="GET" href="http://localhost:8984/restxq/example" status-only = "false" username = "admin" password = "admin" send-authorization="true"> </http:request> let $resp := http:send-request($req) return $resp ---------- run the same query with status-only="false" and status-only="true". the first one(status-only="false") gives exception while the second one(status-only="true") returns proper response header. This is making difficult to handle the response of some requests which MAY contain body data. suppose we want to return the content of the document, if exists, as response body or a standard 410 status. The request should obviously contain status-only = "false". we also tried handling response with the one below, but the issue does exists. <rest:response> <http:response status="410" reason="Gone"> </http:response> </rest:response> I have tried with other http client like Firefox Poster plug-in and it is returning expected response. HTML got changes after uploading into BaseX

Hi All, Sorry for flooding the basex mailing list :( . We have this very simple HTML for some testing purposes. And we upload it through basexgui (HTML file type). <html> <body> <h1>Hello world!</h1> <ul> <li>service</li> <li>advancedassociationquery</li> <ul> <li>service2</li> <li>advancedassociationquery2</li> </ul> </li> </body> </html> but when serve it to the browser we get back the following html response where the list is flattened. <html> <body> <ul> <li>service</li> <li>advancedassociationquery</li> </ul> <ul> <li>service2</li> <li>advancedassociationquery2</li> </ul> </body> </html> After validating we've seen that, according to W3, the STRICT HTML compliant form is the following: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head><title>A title</title></head> <body> <ul> <li>service</li> <li>advancedassociationquery</li> <li> <ul> <li>service2</li> <li>advancedassociationquery2</li> </ul> </li> </body> </html> But even after uploading this STRICT HTML through basexgui we got back the flattened version. Our need is to just store and render the HTML with out any further processing. Also the HTML is generated using a tool. The thing is that the STRICT HTML file is served correctly when uploaded through the REST interface of BaseX (Firefox Poster with PUT method) whereas the incorrect file is served the wrong way(flattened) even if it uploaded through the REST interface. Deploy BaseX 7.3 as a web application

Hi, we deployed BaseX 7.3 as web application in a tomcat7 cluster environment. The rest service is running fine in local mode, but we ve a security issue... We don't want that someone can modify the xml databases, so it must be readonly, but with no password protection. Is there a way to do this in local mode? Thanks in advance, jan

Hi, When running the basexhttp script on ubuntu I get the following error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/basex/BaseXHTTP I don't have a problem running the BaseX73.jar in gui mode. XSD validation performance

Hi, I have encountered an performance issue while validating xml(5kb) against xsd's(12kb). It took nearly 30 seconds for the validation. As baseX is using java API's, we did the same validation using simple java. we noticed that the caching of schema object reduces the time significantly(from 30 seconds to 8 milli seconds.). Is there a place where we could configure to enable/diable caching of schema or it needs the code to be re-factored or is there a workaround? Thanks, Seenivasan

Does CREATing a DB OPEN it?

I'm still seeing this problem (Database 'PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail...' is currently opened by another client). I was able to connect via org.basex.BaseXClient to the database and saw, via 'SHOW SESSIONS', that the database in question was listed like so: > SHOW SESSIONS 3 session(s): - admin [127.0.0.1:35515]: ts_20120725_dot_213235_dot_723_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core - admin [127.0.0.1:37210] - admin [127.0.0.1:44610]: PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core >From the code in Sessions.java/Context.java, I inferred that the db in question ('PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core') was the 'current data reference' of session :44610. How can that be? As a reminder, I'm not using any 'OPEN' commands... So I've examined the logs when this db became the 'current' database of that session, and that, apparently, happened when it was created: 13:58:21.113 [127.0.0.1:44610]: ts_20120725_dot_135820_dot_723_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core CREATE DB PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core [...] 13:58:21.164 [127.0.0.1:44610]: PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core OK 50.95 ms Is this an undocumented side-effect of 'CREATE DB'? Is it necessary to follow every 'CREATE DB...' statement with a 'CLOSE' statement to avoid that the session in which the db was created keeps it open? It is not mentioned here: http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Commands#CREATE_DB If true, I find this rather unusual - and certainly unexpected - it would be as if a 'CREATE DATABASE' statement in SQL automatically issued a 'USE'... command. - Godmar

namespace bug in BaseX 7.3 - produces invalid XML

After upgrading to 7.3, our application broke. BaseX returns this (ill-formed) XML: <result-extract> <libx:body xmlns:libx="http://libx.org/xml/libx2" xmlns=" http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">... that searches by <mark xmlns=" http://libx.org/xml/libx2" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">ISBN</mark> */ var cue = new libx.cues.CatalogCue('i', tuple.<mark xmlns=" http://libx.org/xml/libx2" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">isbn</mark>); <mark xmlns="http://libx.org/xml/libx2" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> </mark>cue.insertBefore(tuple.position); cue.image.setAttribute('width', '16'...</libx:body> </result-extract> resulting in: [Fatal Error] :61:237: Attribute "xmlns" bound to namespace " http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom/" was already specified for element "mark". The wrong XML appears numerous times inside <mark> tag. A <mark> element should not have more than one xmlns= attribute (why it has any, btw, I don't understand). The ill-formed output appears to be produced by the 'ft:extract()' function; here's an excerpt from the XQuery: for $extract in $entry/descendant::*[text() contains text "ISBN"] return <result-extract>{ft:extract($extract[text() contains text "ISBN"])}</result-extract> This is a show stopper that prevents us from upgrading to 7.3, obviously - let me know if you can fix this with the information provided, or if you need a complete test case. Validation using xs:include

Hi, I am trying to use the excellent validation function. It used to work great, however, recently we added a xs:include statement. Now the validator can't find the included schema (that is located in the same directory as the including schema). I think the validator is missing a ResourceResolver. Hi I am trying to pass a string to my XQuery as a parameter, $input below. It seems that the string is not being interpreted as XML as I get the following message when I run the query from my .Net client: Stopped at line 14, column 68: [XPTY0019] Context node required for sglines; xs:string found. Question concerning querying cyclic network xml-structure.

Hi, Can you please help me solving a challenge I have with a specific type XML-query? Ive a bunch of XML-files that are referencing each other. So, a XML-file can reference to multiple XML-files and a XML-file can be referenced to by multiple XML-files. This whole reference-structure could be cyclic. Actually an m:n relationship between XML-files with possible cyclic structure. The standard solution would be to build a recursive-routine for processing an XML-file that, before actually processing the XML-file, checks in some way, for example with some sort of file-in-process-buffer, if the XML-file isnt already being processed. If not store the name in this buffer, processes the XML-file and initiate the recursive routine for the referenced XML-files. A structure like this (not real code (at all)): ============================================================== INSTANTIATE Guard FROM COLLECTION PROCESS-RECURSIVELY( XML-fileName) { PROCESS( XML-fileName) ITERATE Called-XML-file THROUGH XML-file//call-ELEMENT { IF NOT ( Guard.EXISTS( Called-XML-file.NAME) { Guard.ADD( Called-XML-file.NAME) PROCESS-RESURSIVELY(Called-XML-file.NAME) } } } PROCESS-RESURSIVELY(start-file) ============================================================= I found out that, but I could be mistaken, that the standard W3C-XML-tooling (XPATH, XQUERY, XLST) cant handle this situation because of their declarative nature. Recursiveness is possible with these tools but only in a linear way not in an iterative way. That is why Im looking for alternatives. Hopefully BaseX can help me out here. Ive BaseX and the JAVA-examples in eclipse running. Im b.t.w. nor a JAVA- nor an eclipse-expert so it was a bit of a struggle, but I managed. Single restxq call, multiple db:replace. Second one always fail, but the error message seems unrelated.

Hi, I have a process where for each input file, I must create 2 output files. For some reason, I seem to be unable to use more than 1 db:replace in the same function. I have tried pieces of code separately to ensure that every individual piece works. They do work. For your information, I have included my tests as comments after the function. Hi there, I have gone through BaseX and used it. But the of application which I am going to develop has 10+ GB XML data. When I indexed this using BaseX and tried certain searches, I found that the time taken to complete the search was quite big. Counting groups

All: In a group by query expression like for $varGrp at $pos in local:getVariables($from,$to) group by $name := string($varGrp/@name) return <Something/> is there any way to get a value or position for the group count? In my particular use case, I used this to generate an HTML table and I would like to repeat the header every 20-30 rows (group). The "at $pos" variable can't be used as it holds a sequence of positions of the group members (which is what it's supposed to). Any suggestion appreciated. best *P

BaseX 7.3 CREATE DB command fails with: "database locked"

Hi, I"m using BaseX 7.3 using the client/server interface with the org.basex.ClientSession driver. The log shows: 14:39:23.094 [127.0.0.1:47974]: ts_20120713_dot_143922_dot_654_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core CREATE DB PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core [...] 14:39:23.098 [127.0.0.1:47974] Error: Database 'PUB_feed_libx_dot_editions_at_gmail_dot_com_core' is currently opened by another client. 4.05 ms I don't understand what 'locking' or "opened by another client" refers to in this context - certainly not something I'm doing. I'm exclusively using the commands documented at http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Commands none of which is an 'open' or 'lock' command. Again, this makes BaseX unusable - we can't create a reliable server if database operations start failing after a while. This happened after a series of operations - it's not something I can easily create a test case for (due to the fact that BaseX's log are incomplete so I can't simply replay the dozens or so operations I did before BaseX locked up in this way.) It happens regularly, and has happened in BaseX 6.6.3 (I've waited to report it after I upgraded to 7.3). - Godmar

recusive subdirectory suggestion

First, I just downloaded and used BaseX to audit and report a variety of parent contexts across a set of about 2,500 XML documents. It was very painless. Many thanks. Second, I couldn't find a way to prevent recursive indexing of subdirectories. If the feature doesn't exist, it would be handy. In my case, I had the current set of files in the selected directory and old versions in subdirectories. can i edit xml-files?

Dear List Please forgive me for asking a stupid question: is it possible to not only browse, but also edit content of an xml-file with basex? When I browse a file I can right-click node-content, but the edit/delete etc. commands are all greyed out. IMHO it would be a great feature to be able to edit stuff... Best regards, Paull

Hi all. Because no client examples for Python 3.x, I wrote it. The code is for Python 3.x, and further more, for Python 2.7.3 with improving performance (a little). I want to contribute, but I had not found entry to contribute. I don't know basex-talk is fit for the purpse, but i'll post, sorry. I hope these will be in https://github.com/BaseXdb/basex-api... (my work is not perfect especially to process binaries, so, additional reconstruction are wellcome. In addition, as you will see, i'm not native English speaker, so docstring and comments are fairly horrible...fix up, please.)
