Hi, I tried some Japanese letters in fn:normalize-unicode. FULLWIDTH DIGIT, FULLWIDTH LATIN CAPITAL LETTER: fn:normalize-unicode("１２３４５６７８９０ａｂｃｄｅｆｇ", "NFKC") returns 1234567890abcdefg FULLWIDTH EXCLAMATION MARK: fn:normalize-unicode("！", "NFKC") returns ! FULLWIDTH LESS-THAN SIGN, ?FULLWIDTH GREATER-THAN SIGN: fn:normalize-unicode("＜＞", "NFKC") returns <> FULLWIDTH AMPERSAND; fn:normalize-unicode("＆", "NFKC") returns?& These are normal. but, FULLWIDTH QUOTATION MARK, FULLWIDTH APOSTROPHE: fn:normalize-unicode("”’", "NFKC") returns ”’ In this case, I think that "' should be returned. REST service problems - 401-Header sent

Hi, I am using the REST service of BaseX. I'm using POST with the following body to send requests (XPath/XQuery): <query xmlns="http://basex.org/rest"> <text><![CDATA[ (//city/name)[position() <= 5] ]]></text></query> (it's the example from the documentation) Most of the time it works well, but when the XQuery request is to long I get a 401 status code (not authenticated) while I am authenticated. Is there any solution for this problem? Thanks @all

Hi, In "XQuery and XPath Full Text 1.0 Use Cases" [1] it says: Querying across element boundaries is similar to an XQuery and XPath character string function converting the sub-tree under an element into a string by removing all markup. However, I'm having trouble to get this to work in BaseX 7.2.1. For example, given this document: <doc> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet </doc> How do I query, for example, for p elements that contain the string "sit amet"? //p[. contains text 'sit amet'] returns only paragraphs 1 and 2. I've tried a number of variations, but I've been unable to come up with a query that returns all four p elements. Are my queries incorrect or is this a bug in BaseX? how to formulate an excluding xquery?

Hi, in my project, users look for text nodes containing certain words. However, some of these queries result in a very large number of hits, with a lot of irrelevant ones. Is it possible to search with excluding xqueries? For example in this document A B C D E F A B D E F C A B D E F A B D F when looking for [text() contains contains text "A" ftand "B" ftand "E" ordered distance at most 3 words] I would like to make explicit, that "C" should not occur at all, to ensure to find only the third node, not the first nor second one -- i.e., "C" should not occur outside the sequence, nor inside the sequence. Is this possible at all? Can I also specify a query where "C" would be allowed to occur outside the sequence, like in the second node, but not inside like in the first node? Or the other way around? log files

Hi, where are the log files stored? I recently copied the basex/data directory to another computer via scp and I saw that files like "2012-05-04.log" have been copied, too. full text search collation

Hi I have a question relating to full text search. I am trying to use it with Greek texts and the default collation assumes that ά != α In short, accented vowels are treated as different letters. Is this something that has to do with the collation used not being Greek, or does it have something to do with the tokenizer? As a side question i noticed that the stemmers used from lucne are quite outdated. 3.6.0 also includes a Greek stemmer. I tried to include the 3.6.0 stemmers instead but language codes seem to be hardcoded in util/ft/Language.java Any chnce of that part of the code being updated to use the latest stemmers so more languages can be integrated? (i am not proficient in java myself unfortunately so i can't directly help) thanks, Alex

Hi all, I am trying to validate an incoming xml post message against an xsd stored inside the basex. But I am getting this error [FODC0002] Resource 'sampledb/xsd/match.xsd' does not exist. I am sure the path is correct and the xsd file exists there. May I know where I am going wrong? try { let $doc := |<simple:||root| |xmlns:simple=||'http://basex.org/simple'||/>| return validate:xsd($doc,'sampledb/xsd/match.xsd') } catch BXVA0001 { 'Validation failed.' } Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I builded a kind of connection pool using BaseXClient.java class, I simulated several users trying insert documents in BaseX, the result was a disaster. ERROR: data.BaseXDataAccess - Error closing db java.io.IOException: Stopped at line 1, column 19: Unknown command: 1340477810253095000. Try HELP. at data.BaseXClient.execute(BaseXClient.java:99) at data.BaseXClient.execute(BaseXClient.java:110) at data.BaseXDataAccess.save(BaseXDataAccess.java:169) at data.TestInsert$Insert.run(TestInsert.java:88) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:680) Exception in thread "Thread-1" java.lang.RuntimeException: java.io.IOException: at data.BaseXDataAccess.save(BaseXDataAccess.java:164) at data.TestInsert$Insert.run(TestInsert.java:88)ERROR: com.xftec.hyperion.data.BaseXDataAccess - Error closing db I started several threads each one takes a BaseXClient connection and as soon as it finishs its job BaseXClient is put in a queue again to be took by other thread.

Hi guys, I'm having a hell of a time trying to install BaseX on CentOS with Yum. Java method signature: no empty sequence allowed

Dear all, Calling methods from a QueryModule works nicely, yet I can't seem to get a particular method signature to work from XQuery. The function in question should be passed a string and the result of a path expression, yielding attribute values as strings. For example: ns:method($value, $context/ancestor-or-self::*/@some-attr/string()) Intuitively, I figure the signature for this method in the QueryModule should be: public String method(Str previous, Value additionals) { ... However, trying to use this method with BaseX won't work. The query editor accepts the syntax, but states "PXML:combine method: no empty sequence allowed". Changing the signature to Seq, ItemSeq or even Empty changes nothing; it keeps telling me (I think) the expression *could* yield an empty sequence and the method does not support it (even tho Empty is a valid value for Value, is it not?). How would I define my method so that BaseX will accept it? Kind regards, Mattijs Ugen

Ok, getting a little farther but need some assistance. I'm running this command to set the node case to lower case via the command processor. It's works great in the gui but now I need to adapt it for command line execution. I tried: for $i in //* return rename node $i as lower-case(name($i)) and got: Error: Stopped at line 1, column 14: [XPDY0002] No context item set for 'root()'. Thinking that, like for my queries, I needed to specify the database, I tried: for $i in collection("OpenSongSearch") return rename node $i as lower-case(name($i)) and got: Error: Stopped at line 1, column 84: [XUTY0012] Single element, attribute or pi expected as rename target. Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help! XML element case sensitivity

Jens, Could I do this right after database creation and it would actually CHANGE the node names so that my queries could all still references the lower case node names? (that's what it looks like it's doing but I just wanted to confirm it). I need to do it for 3 node names, can it be done in one "for" loop? I don't mind taking the hit at database creation time as opposed to query time. Thanks! David *********************************************************************** Hi David, for preprocessing you could use something like for $i in //* return rename node $i as lower-case(name($i)) to rename all nodes to their lower-case equivalent. If you only want to process lyrics-nodes of all variations, insert Dirk's predicate to `//*`. Sadly the full-text index which offers case insensitivity doesn't include tag names, so you can't use this either. REST service : How to run server side query with params?

Hello, I understand that one way to run a rest based XQuery with parameters is to use the following ... http://localhost:8984/rest/DB/mult.xq?a=21&b=2 This is possible if the query is in the BaseX database. I need to use REST, but the query file (.xq) and .xqm, .xsl files need to be located on the server but not in the database. Can someone give me a pointer about how to do that? Thanks, Anupam
