Bug by saving a big result file (4,2MO)

Hello I am generating quite big files from quite big xml datasources using xquery in BaseX (local). Everything works fine (5,8 minutes processing, but fine ;) But saving the file result is impossible : the GUI freezes and the file remains empty. When I generate the same file using XSLT in Saxon-B, it's a little bit longer but in the end, I get my 4,2MO result file. XML element case sensitivity

I've been searching in the BaseX docs online and can't seem to find reference to what I'm seeing. It may be common knowledge in the XML community but I'm not highly skilled in XML. Here's my issue: I have XML files that I'm loading into my database where there is inconsistency in the case (capital vs. lower-case) of the tag names (XML elements I think?). For instance, I have a tag named "lyrics" and sometimes in the files (whose source is not necessarily under my control) that will be <lyrics> and sometimes <Lyrics>. It could of course, by someone's error also be <lYrIcS> or any other weird combination. Is there a way, either at database creation or via some option or at query time to say that "lyrics" = "Lyrics" = "LyRics", etc. i.e. to be case insensitive for the XML tag names? Thanks! puzzle over namespace qualification and absolute vs. relative location paths

An unexpected phenomenon has arisen in the XQuery course I'm teaching today and tomorrow; I wonder if anyone on this list can shed any light on it. To reproduce: 1 build a database containing the document http://blackmesatech.com/2012/06/data/sonnet92.xml 2 evaluate the following expressions (a) . (displays the entire document) (b) ./* (ditto) (c) declare namespace n = "http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"; ./n:TEI (again returns entire document) This one didn't surprise me; it's what I expected. (d) /TEI (ditto) This one surprised me, since the TEI element in the document is namespace-qualified, and I would not have expected the expression to match anything. At this point, I would be tempted to say "well, maybe when we built the database, BaseX set the default element namespace in the static context to the TEI namespace." That would explain the evaluation of this expression. But ... (e) ./TEI (returns nothing) If the default element namespace in the static context were the TEI namespace, I would expect this to work. If it were NOT the TEI namespace, I would expect (d) to fail. I'm having trouble explaining to the participants in my course (or to myself) why expressions (d) and (e) return different results. Webdav not working on Windows 7 and Basex 7.2.1

I followed the instructions on setting up Webdav for Windows 7, but I am still experiencing problems. I know the server is up and running because the rest and restxq interfaces are working. But I can't get Windows 7 to use it as a webdav server. I get the usual "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid/ Please choose another". This site (http://shon.org/blog/2010/03/04/howto-fix-windows-7-64bit-webdav/ [1]) claims Windows 7 will not use basic auth, but points to the same MS page that shows how to change the registry. Is there a way to setup Webdav on basex so it uses digest authentication"? Hanging when inserting attribute

Hello all. I've tried to execute query for $i in collection('stars')/csv/record return insert node (attribute {'id'} {generate-id()} ) into $i with this <http://www.onlinedisk.ru/file/889304/> file (1000000 strings with 3 integer in any in csv format). fn:trace() does not print

Was using fn:trace() to print out warning statements during XQuery processing. Worked fine using SAXONICA XQuery, but does not print anything in BaseX. Is there a setting to get this to work, or is there some other call that I can make to do same? Thanks!

Hello, I'm interested about BaseX technical details and its query exectution techniques. BaseX uses structural joins such as XPath accelerator as a main tree-join for a location step execution? In other words, do you use some other type joins a as well (i.e. holistic joins such as TwigStack)? I investigated the execution plans however I was not able to find any information about indexes used by each operation. Help for parsing http:send-request response

Hello folks, I'm using the HTTP Module[1] for sending request. The response has he http:response element which is XML. Then at the end of that element is the body of the response. If your ask for text/plain then you will have the text just after the closing </http:response>. <http:response status="200" message="OK"> ... </http:response>Hello World! In my case the media-type of the response is XML. I have something like the following: <http:response status="200" message="OK"> ... </http:response><service> <hello/> </service> How am I suppose to parse this output? That is the EXPpath spec, I have to deal with that. But parsing it with BaseX give the following error: No elements allowed after closed root element. True, that is not valid XML document. Using BaseX to query proprietary DB

Wanting to develop and XQuery interface to proprietary DB and was hoping to use BaseX core for implementation. Is there a well-defined API for implementing such a thing, or would it be more a brute-force source-code sort of effort? Licensing implications? Thanks!

how to cache a pre-compiled query?

I am trying to use QueryProcessor to compile and cache for later, in case no used modules have changed, is this ok? Can I concurrently use QueryProcessor within the same JVM in different threads? BaseX Standalone -i flag may need clarification

Hello there, I'm using the CLI to load a xml file from my file system: java -cp basex.jar org.basex.BaseX -i myfile.xml myscript.xqy The first time I run the command, everything is fine, my file is loaded and my xquery script is executed. But the second time I run it, whenever I change the content of myfile.xml, it is not taken in consideration. I realized that it stores my file in the database the first time and after that it loads it from the database. I was confused because it worked the first time. Could it refresh the content of the database whenever a file exists? And fallback to open the file from database when the specified file does not exist? Whatever, maybe just a clarification about the behavior in the doc could prevent bad usage. Thanks.

Then how about option 'b' ? At this point any way forward, any work around will do. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestion. What I don't understand is, if I can add nodes why can't I pick those nodes from another resource? Why is this not possible? But I'm looking for some workaround. Thanks for your help. Anupam

Hello, My XQuery file looks like this : for $metric in doc("C:\sample1.xml")//metric return ( delete node $metric, insert node <NID>{string($metric)}</NID> into $metric/.. ) The sample1.xml contains "metric" elements. Yet when I execute the query noting gets printed out. Following is the Query Info which shows 6 Updates. But where are the updates happening? I must be doing something wrong, but can't figure it out. Apparant discrepancy in collection and db:list

Hello all, Thanks for the wonderful support this group provides. Its great! With your help, I'm trying to make my way around the issues that I'm discovering, but unfortunately there still are some more issues. I noticed that collection() returns the nodes in the order in which they were added (which is good). However, db:list() returns them in alphabetical order. Any reason why that is the case? Can I somehow get the list of resources in the order in which they were added? Thanks, Anupam P.S. Jens, thanks for your suggestion, I'll try that if all else fails.
