http server and client mode

Hello, I cannot set the http server to use a distant DB. In the restxq.xqm file, I always get Using this: let $count := (count(db:open('logs')/top/session)) in restxq.xqm, I always get the error: Stopped at line 15, column 38 in /usr/share/tomcat/webapps/BaseX72/restxq.xqm: [BASX0003] Database 'logs' not found. On the web browser. Using a CLI from a distant server, I can access the 'logs' DB. The db:list() instruction returns nothing. In web.xml, I set org.basex.mode to "client" and "host" to the IP of my DB server. Something I don't understand is that in the below output (db:system()) I can see that "host" is present whereas "mode" is not. Credential are OK. Any clue? When in "client" mode, is "dbpath" useful? Best way to insert large amounts of records

Hi, we're using BaseX to store multiple collections of documents (we call them records). These record are produced programmatically, by parsing an incoming stream on a server application and turning it into a document of the kind <record id="123" version="1"> ... </record> So far I took the following approach: - each collection of records is its own database in BaseX, for easier management - on insertion - set the session's autoflush to false - iterate over record - add them via add(id, document) - each 10000 records, flush - finally, flush once more - create the attributes index So for example now we have: name Resources Size Input Path ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ col1 14141 19815190 col2 14750 16697081 col3 84450 253593687 col4 1012477 2107593252 col5 126058 186315175 col6 13767 14640701 col7 815991 730536864 col8 31189 39598405 col9 24733 91277637 col10 171906 202392553 ... and there'll be quite a bit more coming in. This kind of bulk insertion can also happen concurrently (I've set-up an actor pool at five for the moment). My questions are: - is this the most performant approach, or would it make sense to e.g. build one stream on the fly and somehow turn it into an inputstream to be sent via add? - is there a performance cost in adding with an ID? We don't really need them since we retrieve records via a query - and those resources aren't really files on the file-system - is there a performance penalty in doing this kind of parsing concurrently? - are there any JVM parameters that would help speed this up? I haven't quite found how to pass in JVM parameters when starting basexserver via the command line. Looks like BaseX gave itself an Xmx of 1866006528 (but that machine has 8GB so it could in theory get more. Thanks! Manuel

Scala client library for BaseX

It's likely going to evolve quite a bit over the next weeks since we're in the process of learning how to best use BaseX. List all documents in a database

RESTXQ: separate server into multiple files

Hello, In the Hello World example (restxq.xqm), would it be possible to split the file in two with half of the requests mappings be in one file in the other half in the other file. The reason I would like to do this is for separation of concern. You could see it as a controller file and in my use case I have two controllers. I have tried to add another file name abc.xqm aside restxq.xqm but I got the following error. The doc says it loads every xqm file in the root directory so I thought nothing would be necessary to configure. DB replication

Hello, Is there any simple way to perform a one-way replication with BaseX? The needed replication is: serverA -> serverB Where serverB is read-only. I would imagine a basic system such as server forwarding updates to server. Or more simply, is there any logging of the update queries so we can just feed them to serverB? Using FOTS format with BaseX

Hi, I am playing around with basex-tests [1]. I cloned the repository, then went to the directory and tried "mvn test". I got a compilation error: [ERROR] Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin:2.3.2:testCompile (default-testCompile) on project basex-tests: Compilation failure [ERROR] .../basex-tests/src/test/java/org/basex/test/qt3ts/app/AppXMark.java:[293,26] constant string too long If I try only "mvn compile", everything goes fine. From there, I could then execute the tests by using (from the same directory): M2_BASEX=~/.m2/repository/org/basex/basex BASEX=$M2_BASEX/7.2.2-SNAPSHOT/basex-7.2.2-20120514.173900-14.jar java -cp target/classes/:$BASEX org.basex.tests.w3c.QT3TS \ -p ~/tmp/fots-try The directory ~/tmp/fots-try/ is not the official FOTS from the WG, but a small sample I wrote for playing with FOTS. It contains the following files: fots-try/ catalog.xml sample.xml set.xml The file catalog.xml is the FOTS catalog, the main entry point, sample.xml is a sample XML document, and set.xml is the only one test set in the test suite. I have two remarks. 1/ The second test case fails because BaseX tries to resolve sample.xml in the current directory, but it should be resolved relatively to the catalog file. The FOTS doc says (for the attribute group "fileAttr"): "The URI will always be relative to the base URI of the XML document in which the attribute appears." 2/ BaseX creates a file "qt3ts.log" in the test suite directory. I couldn't find any infos in the FOTS doc about where to put the result, but Saxon does that in results/saxon/, which is probably better in order to avoid interferences between several processors. Hello, I'm trying to use restxq to generate web report from a DB and I just don't understand where to put the xqueries in the xqm files. Is there any example for this? In my configuration, I have this URL: http://httpserverIP:8080/BaseX72/rest/ showing: <rest:databases resources="2"> <rest:database resources="1" size="3827564582">logs</rest:database> <rest:database resources="1" size="102453817">streams</rest:database> </rest:databases> And http://httpserverIP:8080/BaseX72/restxq/ showing the page: Welcome to the RESTXQ Service bla... bla... But I can't find the way to have an xqm page that queries the above DBs (logs or stream). What shall I do to access data from the xqm files? Error using transform method (XSLT Module)

Hi there, I am using BaseX 7.2 Beta. I am trying to extract certain XML Documents from the DB and then applying the XSLT to convert these docs to HTML. Following is the query, which I am typing in Editor - let $in := /Chapters let $style := doc('C:\Program Files\BaseX\data\chapter.xslt') return <Chapters>{( xslt:transform($in, $style), xslt:transform($in, $style) )}</Chapters> I am getting error message - *Error: [FODC0002] "" (Line 34): </head> found, </meta> expected.* First I thought that, <META> tag might be compulsory. So I added the same to the XSLT file. Still error.... What does it means? Am I doing anything wrong? The XSLT works correctly when used individually with Java code. feedback for RESTXQ and pure XML

Hello, I would like to know best practices for using RESTXQ for pure XML Web services, in my case AtomPub. First I was surprised that using "rest:produces" in the following line did not produces the specified media-type. But instead "application/xml" %rest:produces("application/atomsvc+xml") What was necessary was to use 'output:media-type("application/atomsvc+xml")' in addition. Why that? BaseXHTTP

Hello, can someone point me to instructions for running the http web server? org.basex.BaseXHTTP was not in the OSX BaseX distribution so I cloned basex-api and packaged it with maven. But I didn't know of the dependencies to include in the command line. I had finally the server started but it logs errors and does not answer on port 1984. Are there any instructions? Thanks.

Hello Stefan, thank you for your quick response. For testing purposes the basex database is started within a screen and in this screen the number of open files has been set as recommended by you. Preferred way to run BaseX as service on Debian

Hi, is there perhaps an init.d script somewhere already in order to launch basexserver as a service on Debian? So far it looks as though there isn't one in the Debian package, so I'm thinking of adding a line to rc.local to run it on startup. Also, from what I gathered, basex is now only available in sid, is that correct? I installed it on squeeze by downloading the deb, there's just one dependency on java-wrappers that I needed to install by hand. Thanks, Manuel

Hello, I just installed basex 7.2.1 for the first time. Then I would like to start the server so I can use a command line client to query it. But I got this error: $ java -cp BaseX.jar org.basex.BaseXServer Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/basex/BaseXServer Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.basex.BaseXServer at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:306) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:247) I'm on OSX 10.7.4 BaseX is installed in /Applications/BaseX.app Thanks.

Fpml + Basex

Folks, We are developing a financial system, it will deal mainly with xml(Fpml) files, so I think the best thing to do is using a xml db, we are evaluating some db, including Berkeley, MarkLogic, Sedna and of course Basex, Berkeley is open source but we can't use, you need to pay for that, MarkLogic is expensive, Sedna I don't know much and Basex looks great. My questions are: 1 - MarkLogic says support pentabytes of data, Berkeley says support up to 256TB, and Basex supports up to? 2 - How stable Basex is? 3 - Is it safe for financial institutions? Feel free to give me more information you believe is important. -- Henrique Oliveira
