Change default XML encoding

Hello, I am using BaseX to scan XML files, and most files are using implicitely the ISO-8859-15 encoding. Unfortunately, it seems that the internal XML parser is using by default UTF-8 encoding. This doesn't seem to be specified in the configuration files, or GUI properties. Is there a way to force the internal parser to use another encoding? Many thanks, Guillaume

How do I prevent BaseX from insisting on adding these attributes? <a shape="rect" <br clear="none"> What more do I need to tell it? declare option db:parser "html"; declare option db:htmlopt "method=html,nons=true"; declare option output:method "html"; declare option output:version "4.01"; declare option output:doctype-public "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"; declare option output:doctype-system "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"; declare option output:include-content-type "yes"; Doesn't it know that those are invalid attributes in 4.01, and although I appreciate BaseX's effort in making my life more wonderful, perhaps there is a way to get it to discourage itself from all attributes adding assistance maybe?

cookie-param + restxq

There seems to be problem with cookie-param when the cookie is NOT set. The error is [XPDY0002] No value assigned to $c. See code below for an example. I understand the restxq stuff is in development/experimental and I wonder what plans you have in that direction? I think there are issues/limitations with the url limited to restxq/ and that xqm can be accessed directly (as text) etc, but one limitation of the spec seems to be that one can read a named header or cookie ( chosen at design time ) but not list all headers in the request. Is there a way to parse html file located in local hard drive? Http module of xquery is fantastic, you can retrieve any url content. but I have already html file locally and need to parse. eval evil?

Musing on the the usefulness of actions that update the database and return something, specifically in a web server with Xforms context, and the absence of XQuery scripting. I have been playing around with things like the following: let $s:=util:eval(' let $x:=copy $c:=db:open("listman","1.xml") modify (replace value of node $c/updated with current-dateTime()) return $c return db:replace("listman","1.xml",$x) ') return db:open("listman","1.xml") This works, but is it likely to stop working in the future? Add a spatial index ?

Hello I'am a phd student and i explore actually multiples no-sql solutions to store and process location data such as gml or gpx. I have already familiar with BaseX, and the combinaison XML/XQuery providing the flexibility needed for my project. However, process spatial data need spatial index such as R-tree in order to be processed efficiently. I would like to know if an implementation of spatial index into BaseX exist or are in project ? a possible enhancement to program exit

In BaseX 7.2 just now, I pressed Command-Q to quit the program. My query had changed, so the program put up a dialog box to ask "Save changes to file?" with buttons for Yes, No, and Cancel. As I looked at the dialog box, I noticed that the query in question was not the one I had thought it was (for a project I was closing down) but a different one (the project I was intending to focus on next). So I didn't want to quit the program after all. I clicked on Cancel, expecting that my request to shut BaseX down would be canceled and BaseX would continue running with my query file still in place. But in fact BaseX exited anyway. As far as I can tell, it didn't save the query (no great loss, in this case, I think), so that Cancel effectively had the same effect as No. It's been a long time since I read anything about standard user interface idioms, so I don't want to go so far as to say that this is a bug. But it did surprise me, and so I suggest that it might be helpful to make the Cancel button in this dialog box cancel the quit action. Consider it a request for enhancement. Thanks! GET for an application/query does not evaluate the query first

Hi, I used an old version of BaseX (7.0 I think) and made HTTP GET requests to application/xquery ressources in the database which evaluated them before returning the result of the evaluation. That way I could used predefined XQuery queries stored in the database. The following sentence is written in the documentation at http://docs.basex.org/wiki/REST#Operations : "If a resource with content type application/xquery is addressed, it will be evaluated first, and the result will be returned." But it no more the case in 7.2 and instead I get the query verbatim, not the result of the evaluation. Indeed, Googling around I even found a bug correction made by Christian Grün ( https://github.com/BaseXdb/basex-api/blob/146d594931abe0143766203a329d8f682… ) to an old version of the code. We can see at lines 76 to 82 that an application/xquery ressource is evaluated first: if(type.equals(MimeTypes.APP_XQUERY)) { // execute raw file as query final ArrayOutput ao = new ArrayOutput(); session.setOutputStream(ao); session.execute(new Retrieve(ctx.dbpath())); query(ao.toString(), ctx); } Thus, I tried to find the same sort of code in the actual 7.2 version but could not. So I am wondering if this is a wanted omission, and thus the documentation is out of sync, or if it is an unwanted omission and needs to be corrected. The code I checked is at https://github.com/BaseXdb/basex-api/blob/master/src/main/java/org/basex/ht… The workaround I used is to put my queries as files in the HTTPPATH directory found in the .basex file. JSON/XML mapping

Hello, I have a couple of questions concerning the XML/JSON mapping, described in the documentation JSON Module/JSON Functions. 1) The text says: "As arrays have no names, <value/> is used as element name." But I suppose it should be "array members", rather than "arrays", as an array may of course be associated with a name as any other JSON item. Correct? 2) So are there all in all 6 reserved attributes names (type, numbers, booleans, nulls, objects, arrays) and 2 reserved element names (json, value)? Or have I forgotten some names?
