Hello BaseX team, First of all, thank you for giving such a tremendous effort to help BaseX users, we appreciate it. We’re developing an application that has the sole use of exchanging XML messages with other clients, we chose BaseX to store messages in their xml format and used its RESTful APIs to update the database. Currently storing data in one xml document in one database, but this is not efficient because with time the document will be very large, thus storing and retrieving data from it will take more time. * Can I select a number of xml nodes from the document without the rest? For example returning only the last 200 xml messages ? if yes how to make it happen with REST methods? I thought about the solution of using multiple documents, so there is the possibility of retrieving data from one document at a time, but didn’t find a way to make this process automatic because there are number of issues I didn’t find a solution for: * How can the application know the number and names of existing documents in the database , didn’t find an xquery for this. Database specific xquery modules

I am looking for some ideas on some architecture surrounding xquery modules. Our situation is that we have multiple client applications in various languages that will connect to a database. We will have some reasonably complex xqueries to extract data in certain structures that will be used by each of these clients. So to avoid having to duplicate the query logic we would like the xqueries to reside "in" the database. Additionally, we would like to use the same BaseX installation for multiple databases, corresponding to multiple projects. The data in each of these databases may be against a different schema and our xqueries are essentially tied to the schema of the data. Thus, each database may need slightly different xqueries. The xquery library modules looks to be global for the BaseX instance, as does the loading of main modules off of disk. Is there any way to tie the query module or file to a specific database? We are trying to avoid being limited to 1 database per BaseX instance. An alternative would be to embed the xqueries within our client applications, but that involves duplication. Also, we are not sure if there are any performance difference with having the queries stored in the repo vs client side? For background, we are looking at migrating from oracle to BaseX. So, we are effectively looking for an equivalent of multiple clients connecting to a userspace and using stored procedures which are specific to that userspace. Any ideas on how to achieve this currently? Or is this something that BaseX could support? Cheers, Chris

DB with MS Word .docx files breaks on base-uri()

With a database containing MS Word .docx zip (and other) files: collection('BOV') ! base-uri(.) Returns => Error: Stopped at ., 1/29: [XQST0046] URI '/BOV/DCP-66/2015_AUG_BOV_RETREAT_MINS/2015_AUG_BOV_RETREAT_MINS.docx/[Content_Types].xml' is invalid. I’m guessing it doesn’t like the brackets as part of a URI, but since I’m adding the whole docx container, I can’t specify a different path when creating the DB. collection('BOV') ! db:path(.) Hello, Thank you for your software which GUI has been my savior every time I needed to deal with XML. I would like to know if I can stream xml transforms, to pipe wikimedia XML dumps into a format acceptable by postgres copy ? Hi, My RBaseX client is finally stable enough to use it for real development. All regular commands are executed without errors. But now I am facing another problem. Hi, I'm trying to deactivate the escaping of characters for JSON serialization. It does not work with this: let $json := <map xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions"> <string key="url">http://some.url/path/to/somewhere</string></map> return json:serialize($json, map {'format' : 'basic', 'escape': 'no'}) Output: { "url":"http:\/\/some.url\/path\/to\/somewhere" } If I use the other JSON format it works: json:serialize(<json type='object'><url>http://some.url/path/to/somewhere</url></json>, map { "escape" : "no"}) Output: { "url":"http://some.url/path/to/somewhere" } Is the "escape" parameter not supported for the basic format? empty tags when grouping with tumbling window?

I found (another) wrinkle to parsing this data because blank lines seem to cause a problem with the grouping. I'm looking at the Java examples, but how would I add a POJO, or collection of POJO's, to BaseX? Jaxb looks to certainly be an option to serialize to XML, but what would be some alternate approaches? thanks, Thufir

how to export to CSV?

What I'm trying to export to, CSV: joe,phone1,phone2,phone3, sue,cell4 ,home5,, alice,atrib6,x7,y9,z10 What needs to be done so that it can be exported to CSV: <ul> <li>joe</li> <ul>phone1</ul> <ul>phone2</ul> <ul>phone3</ul> <li>sue</li> <ul>cell4</ul> <ul>home5</ul> <li>alice</li> <ul>atrib6</ul> <ul>x7</ul> <ul>y9</ul> <ul>z10</ul> </ul> But not sure how to get from the above list, which I can rewrite as XML, to something which BaseX can then export as the desired CSV. I know that it has to be wrapped in <csv> and that <record> is used, as well. Something like: <csv> <record> <Name>Huber</Name> <First_Name>Sepp</First_Name> <Address>Hauptstraße 13</Address> <City>93547 Hintertupfing</City> </record> </csv> is what I see in the documentation, but not sure how to get there. thanks, Thufir
