KILL session

I'm trying to create an environment where I can have mutliple BaseX Servers, and I can run 2-3 complex queries on them at a time. However, I want to have the ability to stop a running XQuery script for any reason. I assumed that's what would happen if I KILL the session using a BaseX client. However when I try to KILL a session I have the following issues: 1) BaseX client freezes and I have to CTRL-C to stop it 2) The session I try to kill is removed from the list, but the process continues to run. I have to force kill -9 the basex server for it to stop. Should I report this as a bug or is there another way to kill the running scripts? Thanks

User and Password in REST URL

Hi all When invokling an XQuery via REST, eg. http://mydomain.com:8984/rest?run=scripts/myscript.xq I'm prompted to type in the user and password for authentication. This is ok when a script needs user authentication to connect to a database. But when the script only uses the XQuery processor to output a (generated) HTML page it would be easier if the user authentication could by included in the URL, eg http://mydomain.com:8984/rest?run=scripts/myscript.xq&user=tester&password=… Is there a way to bypass the authentication dialog this way? I tried with the parameters "user" and "password" as shown in the example above, but this dosn't work. ThnxMike

Dear Mansi, you could try to run the INSPECT command on the affected database, or all databases, in order to find out if your database has gone corrupt. Did you repeatedly come across this error? Strange restxq path error "assigned to several functions"

Hi, suddenly, I get a path error [1] for functions that worked just minutes ago. When renaming the functions again it sometimes resolves the issue. I have CACHERESTXQ = false But this "feels" just like a caching issue. Appeared while on 8.4.1, but same on 8.4.3 Any ideas? [1] Problem accessing /test/import-convert/19.2.xlsx. xquery:eval - static context?

Dear BaseX team, a question concerning the static context used by xquery:eval. It seems to me that the static context is not inherited from the location of the evaluating call. Therefore arises the question how to call user-defined functions within code evaluated by xquery:eval. Non-updating Expressions: copy/modify/return. Multiple for-clauses inside modify

Hi all, hi Christian, for my queries I have to modify some legacy xml-documents. The copy/modify/return-expression works fine with one for-clause. But I have to modify different elements. I can't figure out, how to chain the for-clauses. Working Example: copy $doc := $document modify ( let $first_elements := $doc//element-name for $element in $first_elements let $target := $element/@target let $htm_anchor := substring-after($target, '#') return replace value of node $element/@target with 'xyz' || $htm_anchor ) return $doc This is working for one for-clause. But I have to do a lot more with different elements for example: let $second_element := $doc//element-name-second for $ele in $second_elements let $... return ... The returning document should contain all modifications. How can I chain the for-clauses inside modify? Thanks for a hint in advance. Günter

Loading XML file as an InputStream in BaseX

Hi, I was going through the sample file given at [1]. Here, the XML file is taken from a file. Is there any way of giving the XML as a stream instead? The requirement is to use XPath expressions on an XML payload that comes with an HTTP request (the payload will be available to consume, as an InputStream) to check whether the payload contains some given text/data. I also had a look at [2]. Is this approach valid only for common types like integer, string etc? Hi all I want to print the current date and time on a HTML page using XQuery's format-dateTime function. The problem is that I always get the GMT time which currently is 2 hours behind of Central Europe Time. This is what my code looks like: <p>Stand vom {format-dateTime(current-dateTime(), '[D01].[M01].[Y0001] [H01]:[m01]:[s01]', 'de')} Uhr</p> And this is what I get when local time is 15:21:34: Stand vom 27.04.2016 13:21:34 Uhr Is it possible to get the local time using format-dateTime? Cascaded Treemaps

Hello everyone, I’m an occasional user of BaseX and I like the program very much. One thing that could be improved is the treemap view. Cascaded tree maps have been proposed for better visualization of the nesting structure [1]. An example is available here [2]. I think this could help exploring the structure of XML documents better. For example, I think it takes a little too much practice and attention to the nuances to construct the tree on the right from the tree map on the left. Great software, though. Function must not be updating error in 8.4.3 (not in 8.4.2)

Hi, I'm sorry for the vague report. I can do more digging but it's happening deep inside some code and it's hard to pinpoint. In 8.4.3 I get the following error message: [XPTY0004] Function must not be updating: %updating function($result,$tran.... In 8.4.2 and before the same code works as expected. What I can say that it's happening in a fold-left function which in it's body uses an xslt transform (using Saxon). I have MIXUPDATES=true. I'm not touching the database inside this code but I can say that the fn call in which the fold-left is located does contain a couple of db:* functions (but they are not in the active code path). That's all I can offer at the moment. I'm happy to do some more digging later but I wanted to post this just in case it gives someone a hunch and it's only introduced since 8.4.2. Also tried 8.4.4-SNAPSHOT and there it's broken too. Cheers, --Marc

Restxq and java

Hi, I have developed a restxq service, which executes a command via the process module. The command is actually java (java -cp ...) which actionates a linguistic parser: unfortunately the time of loading/opening of the java process is quite long (14 sec., also at the command line) even if the actual parsing is very fast. I am looking for a way to keep such a java process "open", so that a user's request can be satisfied much much quickier (while now the java process is opened and then closed for each single request). I am not sure this is a question for Basex users (the problem is only due to java), but I am not a java developer at all and I am trying to understand what can be done in this respect. Thanks! command script / batch-processing of xqueries

Hi all, hi Christian, I'm running some xqueries to create and update basex dbs over and over again. They all depend on the basic db 'mydata'. Whenever mydata is updated, I have to update the other dbs. 1. xq-file: db:create('mydata', path/to/my/xml ..... 2. xq-file: db:create('searchindex', let $data0 := db:open('mydata') ..... 3. xq-file: db:create('indd-xml', let $data0 := db:open('mydata').... 4. and so on First question: Is there any way to put the whole process into one command-script? Or is there any kind of other batch-processing? Second question: So far I'm creating the db 'mydata' with the GUI. I want to integrate the creating into the batch-processing via XQuery. In generell I know the create-command, but where to put the options: use XInclude, chop-whitespace OFF and Fulltext Language German internal, Stemming OFF, Case Sensitive and Diacritics ON? Non-default admin user/pw for BaseX on Docker image

Hi BaseX team, hi all I want to create a docker image based on the existing basexhttp image, but with other credentials for the admin user. For this reason I added an edited .basex file with changed password (here: mypassword) to the new docker image: .basex: ...# Client/Server ArchitectureHOST = localhostPORT = 1984SERVERPORT = 1984USER = adminPASSWORD = mypasswordSERVERHOST = ... Dockerfile: FROM basex/basexhttp:latestMAINTAINER Mike <myemail(a)mail.com>COPY .basex /srv/VOLUME ["/srv/BaseXData", "/srv/BaseXWeb"] After starting the docker container I checked if the edited file can be found under the path "/srv/.basex". The file is there but when I want to login to the database (or run an XQuery script via the browser) I cannot login with admin/mypassword. The erreor message is: Connection failed: Access denied. But I can still use the default user/pw (admin/admin) to connect. Why is the changed .basex file not loaded/parsed when starting the BaseX (http) server on the docker container? Problems with IPA diacritics display

Hi (again), (I have now signed up for the list) There seems to be a problem with displaying results in which the text has with IPA diacritics. The problem is only in the display of the data and not the source xml files or even those extracted from the search results in which these display problems are found. The problem is also not universal, in some cases they display fine, in others there are gaps in the text and characters overlapping. I've attached a screenshot of the results and a small file in which there are such characters diacritics which you can test on. For the record, I did activate the 'diacritics' option in the 'Full Text' portion of the menu, and I do have the IPA zip folder in that of the database source files It's essential for us to be able to display these characters and strings correctly for our research it would be greatly appreciated if you could give any insight or consider this issue in any future software updates! Hi Günter, sorry for the delay but here you go with a very small example that should show off what I told. You can copy the .xqm files into the webapp dir of a basex installation and and the .css files into the corresponding static folder. Then invoke the "entrypoint" RestXQ from within your browser with an url similar to http://localhost:8984/myapp/page1?user=Marco As you can see the HTML page built from the entrypoint is composed of three parts. One that selects the styles to apply according to the user being anonymous or not. Then a common header markup is generated and finally a dynamic part that depends on the page element of the path.
