Flexible update via function

Hello, How to add/replace a complete node in a node tree, with done by a function and by according function parameters. That means with flexible instructions. Such as: declare function local:NodeAdd($XML, $XMLPath, $XMLValue) { ?? }; let $XML := <root><xml>text</xml></root> let $XMLAdd := <B>BBB</B> let $XMLPath := $XML/xml return local:NodeAdd($XML, $XMLPath , $XMLAdd) Problem: Following examples didn't work, because an internal reference to copy-XML-structure is needed/forced. example 1: copy / modify declare function local:NodeAdd($XML, $XMLPath, $XMLValue) { copy $XML2 := $XML modify ( insert node $XMLValue into $XML2/xml ) return $XML2 }; But: Instead of into $XML2/xml, into $XML/xml is needed, respectively into $XMLPath Thanks a lot Michael

UnaryLookup expression failure

While testing some XQuery lookup expressions on BaseX 8.6.7, I got a wrong result for this one: (map{'a':(1,3)},map{'a':(2,4)})!?a[2] It should have returned the second item of the 'a' entry for each of the maps, i.e. 3 4 but it returns just 3 Apparently the predicate is applied as if everything before it was in parentheses, i.e. as if it were ((map{'a':(1,3)},map{'a':(2,4)})!?a)[2] The (simplified) parse tree for the original expression and the XQuery 3.1 grammar however indicates that the predicate is part of the mapping target expression: <SimpleMapExpr> <ParenthesizedExpr> ... </ParenthesizedExpr> <TOKEN>!</TOKEN> <PostfixExpr> <UnaryLookup> <TOKEN>?</TOKEN> <NCName>a</NCName> </UnaryLookup> <Predicate> <TOKEN>[</TOKEN> <IntegerLiteral>2</IntegerLiteral> <TOKEN>]</TOKEN> </Predicate> </PostfixExpr> </SimpleMapExpr> Best regards Gunther

Hello there, I found the problem! My code added a trailing space to the values of the variables when binding. After tokenizing in the XQuery, this creates a zero length string which when cast to xs:integer then becomes an xs:double according to the error message. Is this intended behaviour? When I set the following like so: *declare variable $depotConstraint := "PM OC";* *declare variable $resConstraint := "NIL 180/1";* *declare variable $lowerDiagNoConstraint := "NIL NIL";* *declare variable $upperDiagNoConstraint := "NIL NIL";* The query runs fine. When I try and set these externally, I get error "FORG0001 : Cannot cast to xs:double" at the following underlined location: declare function local:applyDiagStartFilter($diagrams, $index) { let $diagNo := $lowerDiagNo[$index] return if($diagNo = "NIL") then (local:applyDiagEndFilter($diagrams, $index)) else *(local:applyDiagEndFilter($diagrams[@id >= $diagNo cast as xs:integer]*, $index)) }; I do not understand why that should be as there is clearly no mention of xs:double in this query! Also, this happens when $diagNo is "NIL" which is even more perplexing as that would suggest it fails the "if" test somehow. The $xxxxConstraint variables are all supplied as strings. What am I doing wrong? I am using BaseX 8.6.7 in Java 8. Shaun

Architecture question

Greetings list, I have an idea of how I want to use Basex, and would like to know if what I am wanting to do will work. My background is IBM mainframe, so the terminology I use is influenced by that. I have a server running in an address space on a mainframe. Within that address space are multiple tasks active. I believe the term task is equivalent to a thread in the distributed world. I would like to have a task initialize when my server comes up and establish a connection to an instance of a Basex server. This task would be responsible for processing requests that come in from the Basex server. On a browser, I want to have a user connect to an instance of the Basex HTTP server. From the manual, it states that if the HTTP server is started, the client server is started as well. I don't know if this is all one instance of a Basex, or if there are actually two processes that get established. The HTTP server will need to know if the connection has been established between the mainframe and the client server. Is this possible, and if so, how would that be accomplished? Assuming that the user on the browser needs some information from my mainframe server, is there a mechanism in place to facilitate the HTTP server sending the request to the client server, and the client server sending the request to the mainframe. Would the mainframe have to do a poll of some kind to see if there was data, or can the client server push the request out across the connection? If the above works, that is, Basex acting as a message broker between a browser and the mainframe, I want to be able to create another connection from another task on the mainframe to the Basex client server as a result of a user request on a browser, have that 2nd task create a new database, and start pushing xml across that 2nd connection. While that new database is being updated from the mainframe, can the user on the browser query the new database to get the most current data? Regards, -- Dave Day

Christian, all, The new "combined" packaging option ( https://github.com/BaseXdb/basex/issues/1413) seems like an interesting enhancement. I have been working on my first BaseX repository module/package (though unfortunately I am not yet fluent in Java). It is working perfectly so far, but I wanted to be sure I was going about it correctly because it still seems a little like magic to me. I am also wondering whether this new feature is something I might want to take advantage of. The module (https://github.com/timathom/basex-rdf) uses Günther Rademacher's REx Parser Generator[1] to create a Java parser for the RDF TriG/Turtle syntax[2], using the BaseX extension function option. Following the BaseX documentation[3], I have created a XAR package that includes the JAR file and an XQuery wrapper. The wrapper calls the function exposed by the Java module (import module namespace trig = "org.basex.modules.rdf.TriG";) and then processes the raw parse tree, overlaying some additional abstractions (I confess that I cheated and used XSLT for most of the processing functionality). Because of the built-in BaseX extension function, this approach seems different from a straightforward "combined" module approach, but, again, I wanted to ask whether the way I'm doing this seems correct. xquery:eval Issue with bindings

Hello there, I am trying to use xquery:eval method supplying bindings as map, and following the example on the website where the bindings are supplied as a map. However, when I run the following query, I get the error "Items of type map(*) cannot be atomized". What am I doing wrong? FLWOR expression order is lost

Hello, I noticed that the order of my FLWOR expression is not kept when I do an xpath on the node list: > basex 'declare function local:nodes() {let $data := (<test a="2"/>, <test a="1"/>) let $nodes := trace(for $n in $data order by xs:integer($n/@a/data()) return $n) return $nodes }; local:nodes()/@a/data()' <test a="1"/> <test a="2"/> 2 1 I would expect it to return it in order.
