Upload xml file from client to server

Hi, How can I upload an xml file from a client machine to the basex server? After spending a couple of hours trying to use the "BaseX GUI" which apparently is not possible, I'm now trying to use the "basex client" instead. I've managed to login from the client to the server by doing; java -cp basex-6.2.2.jar org.basex.BaseXClient -U admin -P admin -n 192.168.2.10 then creating a database; create db test open test but when I try to upload a file by doing; add text.xml it says; File or directory "C:/BaseX/test.xml" not found. If I go to the server and create a file there called test.xml then go back to the client and do "add text.xml" it works! So the "add" command seems to add files on the server, not the client. Is it possible to add a file / document to the server from a client, or can it only be done at the server? Thanks, Nigel

Hi Nigel, the GUI (apart from the Server Administration Dialog that only allows to administer users and database) only works locally. So queries or commands added in BaseX Gui are only executed in a local manner. To perform queries and retrieve results over the wire you should use the BaseX-Client. Client / Server

Hi, I can't work out how to connect from a client to a server. I know that the server is running ok because I can connect to it locally using "localhost" but I can't connect from the client. This is what I'm doing on the client: 1. File menu --> Server Administration. 2. Administrator Logon password: admin 3. Administrator Logon hostname: 192.168.2.10 4. Click the Connect button. The message "Connected to 192.168.2.10:1984" is shown. If I then click on the database tab, the databases dropdown box shows "22 databases". One of which is called "bjd". I then close the Server Administration dialog box and in the command line type "open bjd" but I get "Error: Database bjd was not found." Help! What's going on? Regards Nigel

Hi, Is it possible to upload an XML file to the server from one machine to another? I'm using BaseX 6.1 on Windows XP. I have a BaseX server running on 192.168.2.10 and the BaseX 6.1 user interface running on 192.168.2.101. In the Server Administration dialog box, under "Administrator Logon" the "Connect" and "Disconnct" buttons are both greyed out. I can't connect from 192.168.2.101 to 192.168.2.10. Dear Ivan, this is one of the features which is currently discussed for the next release; additionally, you'll soon be allowed to support hierarchic collection paths, such as.. http://localhost:8984/basex/jax-rx/collection/path/to/filename.xml Some JaxRX interface issues have to be solved first to make this possible. Editing in the XQuery buffer - 2 RFEs

In my use of BaseX I am regularly troubled by one minor shortcoming (as I see it :) in the interactive graphical user interface. When I am concentrating hard on formulating a query, my fingers automatically type Emacs keystrokes to move the cursor around. The result is that I end up inserting ^A, ^D, ^E, and ^K characters into the buffer. (Other Emacs users might end up with stray ^N and ^P characters, but this usually doesn't happen to me.) It would make the XQuery box in the GUI a lot more convenient for me if these keystrokes had their normal Emacs meaning there. Consider that a request for enhancement. In the meantime, I have the problem that if I type one of these characters by accident, and then move away from the location (which happens quite often, since some of these characters are often parts of sequences of cursor movements), then I get an error message from BaseX (e.g. the message now showing in my status bar, "[XPST0003] Query contains an illegal character (#1)." But there is no visual indication of where the stray character is: all of these characters are invisible in the XQuery buffer. If it were possible to make these illegal characters visible in some way (as "^A" or some kind of dot or box, for example), it would help at least those users who, like me, have Emacs keystrokes wired into their fingers. Thanks, Huib, for adding another language to BaseX! Yes, I allowed myself to rename your file to Dutch.lang, although Netherlandic might be somewhat more appropriate ;) We may display the original language names in future. A request to everyone: more translations are welcome! Mandarin and Spanish are on top of the list. As a result, and for the sake of performance, the changes performed via REST won't be reflected in the visual frontend. We have lots of users who operate BaseX in read-only environments, and we're continuously extending our support for scenarios that depend on stable realtime updates. Indeed, BaseX is very performant when it comes to updates – it's actually much faster than most competing systems we have tested by now – which is due to the fact that we have a very low updating overhead (no indexes are updated, no backups are performed for rollbacks, etc). Instead, BaseX includes manual features to rebuild your indexes and backup/restore the data. If you want to perform some tests on your workloads, I recommend to work with the latest version of BaseX (6.2.9), which included many fixes that have optimized the stability of our update operations. Along with the next official version, you'll get better documentation on the latest features. Advanced, optional update/transaction features to further minimize the danger of losing data are on our todo list. How to run the C# Binding examples?

(Newbie Alert: both in BaseX and C#) Hello folks, I have been considering Java and C# for BaseX-based development. My Java experiments are going quite well. C##: First, I created 4 new blank projects in Visual Studio 2010 for the sample apps (BaseXClient.cs, CreateExample.cs, Example.cs, QueryExample.cs). After I added the references "System" and "Microsoft.CSharp" most of the errors went away, but there are 2 remaining: (1) The types "Session" and "Query" are not recognized. I am sure they are somehow part of BaseX. How do I add support for those types? It probably involves creating some reference and adding it, correct? (2) The other type that is not recognized is "Stopwatch". Microsoft provides one such class: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ebf7z0sw.aspx which has a "Start" method and a "ElapsedMilliseconds" property. That class is not recognized, however.
