xslt:transform function not working with XML Catalog

I've encountered a problem using xslt:transform in to transform some old XML that contains a DTD DOCTYPE system literal pointing to a non-working URI and also uses ENTITYREF attributes to refer to image files. I have the XML Catalog configured correctly using CATFILE. The XSLT is using unparsed-entity-uri() to convert the ENTITYREF into a file name for an href attribute. I've tested the XSLT and the XML Catalog in oXygen and in XSpec, so I know they work. I've tried a few alternatives to get this to work in BaseX and have not arrived at a working solution. The BaseX setup uses BaseX 9.3.3, XML Resolver 1.2, and Saxon HE 9.9.1-7. Passing the XML directly to xslt:transform does not use the XML Catalog for parsing the XM. I've tried making the first parameter of xslt:transform a path to a XML file, an xs:anyURI pointing to the XML file, or string containing the XML. Each time the XML fails to parse due to the non-working URI in the system literal. When I change the system literal to a URI that works the transformation works and the unparsed-entity-uri() function produces the expected file name for the href attribute. I also tried parsing the XML using doc() or fetch:xml() first and then using the parsed XML as the first parameter of xslt:transform(). The doc() or fetch:xml does use the XML Catalog to parse the XML. However, unparsed-entity-uri() function produces an empty string because the DTD information is no longer available. Hoping to be able to spot the problem I looked through the BaseX code. XsltTransform is using CatalogWrapper to set a URIResolver, but is not setting an EntityResolver. SAXWrapper is using CatalogWrapper to set an EntityResolver before parsing XML. It looks like this should work, but it's not. The next alternative is to pre-process the XML using a regular expression to replace the non-working URI in the DOCTYPE system literal with a working URI prior to xslt:transform(). This works, but it seems like this is just working around a problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a better solution? unknown type error returned for xs:anySimpleType and xs:anyType

Hello, I ran the following query using BaseX 9.3.3 command-line client: 'hello' instance of xs:anyAtomicType the result of the query is `true`. But if I run this query: 'hello' instance of xs:anySimpleType an error "[XPST0051] Unknown type: xs:anySimpleType" is returned Similarly, for the query: 'hello' instance of xs:anyType an error "[XPST0051] Unknown type: xs:anyType" is returned Should xs:anySimpleType and xs:anyType be recognized? Enabling Xerces2 XML Schema processor

Hello, Very new to this - seeking help on how to enable the Xerces2 XML Schema processor as described in https://docs.basex.org/wiki/Validation_Module#XML_Schema_Validation I downloaded the Xerces2 Java 2.12.1, but could not find the following jar files: org.eclipse.wst.xml.xpath2.processor_1.2.0.jar, cupv10k-runtime.jar Thank you

Position of attributes using copy/modify

Hi, I know that the order of attributes in XML is not relevant, but I am wondering whether there is a way to add an attribute as the last one using copy/modify expression. The “as last” option seems not to work for attributes. Cheers, Giuseppe

Handling saving errors

Hello BaseX team, We're developing an application where a command can result in saving data on multiple xml documents in the same database. We're using Rest APIs. Now, We're looking on handling saving errors. For example, if there were an error in saving data on a one document, then the saving of data on other documents must be canceled (even if there were successful updates, they must be canceled). OverlappingFileLockException error for BaseX version 9.2.4

Hello, I have a Java web application which relies on BaseX library to mostly read XML files (they are quite big, e.g: 20 MB per file) by XQuery. The XQuery is also quite complicated. It takes ~3 seconds to query. Configuration file .basex: https://pastebin.com/3EH7MJi5 I got the error below when multiple requests are processed in parallel. I wonder how BaseX can work in this case without error like this? RbaseX Client software, reading from a socket

Hi, I have no idea if it is used by others, but last march my most recent version of my RbaseX library was accepted by CRAN. To my knowledge there are no errors (all tests are passed). The only problem is that performance is bad ;-(. Uploading a file or downloading the result from a query can take several minutes. I can understand why it takes so long. According to the server protocol, the end of a stream is indicated by a terminating 0-byte. And to distinguish a 'regular' 0-byte in a binary stream from the stop-0, 0-bytes (and FF-bytes) are preceded by an extra FF-byte. The only way to deal in R with these FF-byte was to proces each character/byte separately and that takes much time. I am trying to speed up everything by using C++ for all direct read/write operations. But I never have worked with C++ before. And neither do I understand exactly how streams are to be used. According to some posts on internet, when reading from a stream the first 8 bytes are used to pass information on the length of the stream. My question is if this a standard way to pass information on that length? Or is it specific to C++ or Java? Ben

How to serialize HTML as text

Hi, I’ve got an XQuery question more than a BaseX question. I need to output a JSON object with HTML content without a parent element. Weird idea I grant you, but required by the people I work with. Working from a map, in the map value, the content should not appear in a parent element. Instead of : ``` map { ‘key' : ‘value’, ‘content’ : <span>this is some <hi>content</hi> etc</span> } ``` I would like to output something like ``` map { ‘key' : ‘value’, ‘content’ : 'this is some <hi>content</hi> etc' } ``` Is there a way to output some HTML content without the parent element in XQuery ? If you want to ensure that arguments of user-defined functions are not evaluated before the function is evaluated, you should work with function items: let $check := function( $pred as item(), $true as function() as item()*, $false as function() as item()* ) { if ($pred) then $true() else $false() } return $check(true(), true#0, function() { error((), 'false') }) In the specific case you brought up, you can instead call the built-in function util:if: util:if(true(), 'true', error((), 'false')) The third argument will only be considered if the supplied condition fails.
