In general, it looks like this is your environment rather than the package, but it'd be nice to be able to prove it.
Grab a fresh copy of current stable basex via the zip archive, unpack that in some other directory entirely -- ideally belonging to a different user, no reason you can't create a test user if you have root on the machine -- and see what it does there?
