Yes, it's absolutely recommendable to change the admin password ;)
Some questions in advance:

* How do you start the server (via "basexhttp", or by directly
starting Jetty or Tomcat)?

* How did you change the password?
via the client, command PASSWORD
* Do you have some password data in your web.xml file, which may not
match the new credentials?
No, this happends before even editing the web.xml

The `ls' command can only be used when connected to the server.
Try running `open' first (see `help open' for more details).

challenge
