I've just noticed that the Mac OS X app package doesn't contain
the shell scripts for launching the server and command-line client,
etc.  I've downloaded BaseX702.zip and can unzip it -- is there a
reliable way to integrate that material into the BaseX.app directory
structure, or should I just install it separately in /opt/local?  And
if I do, do I need to be careful not to run the server at the time as
I'm run
ning the GUI app?  Or do I only need to be careful if I
am actually changing the databases?
sorry for that, I guess the latest DMG did not make it to our download page yet (I'm going to change that),
until that you may get a version for OSX + scripts at: http://files.basex.org/releases/7.0.2/
Place the BaseX.app in your /Applications/ folder und but the scripts from inside scripts somewhere in your $PATH and you should be fine.

Hope this helps, as usual: feedback is highly welcome :-)

Kind regards
Michael

Thank you!
