In partial answer to my own question, I find that despite the error messages I can actually get it to work. So I just ignore the messages? And “moving the files” seems to mean “move the files to the BaseXWeb folder in my home folder”.

However one point that I still do not understand is that the guide is very insistent on the need for authorisation via password. But at no time to I get asked to input a password. Is this normal?

On the other machine, I simply get the message: “command not found” in response to the command “basexhttp”, even though I am in the bin folder and the basexhttp script is present and executable.

Any suggestions about what I could try next would be welcome. best
