In the past, we didn't offer Maven artifacts for BaseX snapshots; this has now been changed as well:

Btw, the latest snapshot includes a small optimization that will speed up many calls to the XQuery fn:count() function by orders of magnitudes (this fix didn't make it into the official release anymore).
