*2nd Call for papersThe 28th International Conference on Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar* *Submission Deadline: 14-March-2021* The 28th International Conference on Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar will be held on 28 July - 29 July 2021 as *an online event*. Abstracts are invited that address linguistic, foundational, or computational issues relating to or in the spirit of the framework of Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar. *Conference Format:* The HPSG 2021 conference will be a two-day main conference. It will be followed by a one-day workshop on negation, which will be announced separately. Presentations will be pre-recorded and pre-loaded on the conference website, and the discussion period will be online. *Invited Speakers:* *Paul Kay *- University of California, Berkeley *Jack Hoeksema* - University of Groningen *Submissions:* Two types of submissions for the main HPSG conference are invited: • Long papers (4-page abstract + 1 page data, figures & references; 20 minute pre-recorded presentation + 15 minute online discussion) • Short papers (2-page abstract + 1 page data, figures & references; 10 minute pre-recorded presentation + 10 minute online discussion) Please note that abstracts submitted for the "long paper" track can be accepted as "short papers" (and vice versa). Only "long papers" will appear in the proceedings. Call for Papers CSSP 2021 The 14th Syntax and Semantics Conference in Paris December 9-11, 2021 http://www.cssp.cnrs.fr/cssp2021/index_en.html Submission deadline: May 9 2021 The 14th Syntax and Semantics Conference in Paris (CSSP 2021) will take place on December 9-11, 2021 at Université de Paris, Campus Rive Gauche (former Paris-Diderot). We plan to hold the event in a hybrid format, i.e., with both physical and virtual attendance. Depending on the development of the pandemic, we may have to revert to an online-only conference. CSSP invites papers combining empirical inquiry and formal explicitness, and favours comparisons between different theoretical frameworks. We welcome submissions using theoretical, experimental or computational methods in: * syntax, * semantics, * pragmatics, * the syntax-semantics interface, * the semantics-pragmatics interface, * language acquisition: syntax-semantics-pragmatics. The conference aims to promote interaction and collaboration among researchers interested in non-derivational approaches to grammar, where grammar is seen as the interaction of (perhaps violable) constraints from multiple levels of structuring, including those of syntactic categories, grammatical relations, semantics and discourse. SUBMISSIONS: TALKS AND POSTERS The main conference sessions will involve 45-minute talks (30 min + 15 min discussion), and poster presentations. Contributions can focus on results from completed as well as ongoing research, with an emphasis on novel approaches, methods, ideas, and perspectives, whether descriptive, theoretical, formal or computational. Presentations should describe original, unpublished work. DISSERTATION SESSION As in previous years, we are hoping to hold a special session that will give students the chance to present recent PhD dissertations (or other student research dissertations). The dissertations must be completed by the time of the conference, and they should be made publicly accessible (e.g., on the World Wide Web). The talks in this session should provide an overview of the main original points of the dissertation; the talks will be 20 minutes, followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Students should note that the main sessions are certainly also open to student submissions. Students who present papers in either session will receive a small subvention towards their conference costs from the International LFG Association (ILFGA). TIMETABLE Deadline for abstracts: 22 February 2021, 23:59 UTC-12 (midnight anywhere on Earth) Notification of acceptance: 31 March 2021 Conference: 13 July - 16 July 2021 SUBMISSION SPECIFICATIONS The language of the conference is English, and all abstracts must be written in English. All abstracts should be submitted using the online submission system. Submissions should be in the form of abstracts only. Abstracts can be up to three A4 pages, including figures and references. Abstracts should be in 10pt or larger type, with margins of at least 2cm on all four sides, and should include a title. Omit name and affiliation (including in PDF document properties), and avoid obvious self-reference. Please submit your abstract in .pdf format (or a plain text file). If you have any trouble converting your file into .pdf please contact the Program Committee at the address below. (On the Easychair submission system, if you upload your abstract as a .pdf file, please simply type 'abstract attached' in the abstract box.) The number of submissions is not restricted. However, in the interests of high participation and broad representation, each author should be involved in a maximum of two oral papers and can only be a single author of one. -Apologies for multiple postings- Dear colleagues, The German Research Foundation (DFG) recently funded a Göttingen-based Research Training Group (RTG) on "Form-meaning mismatches“. This RTG aims to provide a large group of PhD students with an excellent training in linguistic research by jointly investigating one of the most pressing questions in linguistics, namely to what extent morphosyntactic structures are mapped onto meaning. Not only is this investigation critical to linguistic theory, especially when it concerns the interface between morphosyntax and semantics/pragmatics, but it may also help us better understand language variation, language change, language processing and language acquisition. The RTG is currently advertising 12 PhD positions with a starting date of September 1, 2021. Information on these positions can be found at: https://www.uni-goettingen.de/form-meaning-mismatches. The RTG covers all core areas of linguistics: grammatical theory (morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics), linguistic variation including sign languages, language change, language processing and language acquisition. Facilities are available for a wide-range of research methods including corpus studies, experimentation (for instance, eye tracking), linguistic fieldwork and computational modeling. Furthermore, the RTG does not explicitly restrict the grammatical framework assumed for each research project. Thus, candidates working in not only generative frameworks but also functional grammar, Categorial grammar, LFG, HPSG, among others, are encouraged to apply. Each graduate student will work on a research project that fits in within the overall theme of the RTG. Applicants can choose a research topic of their own, as long as the proposal fits the RTG’s guiding idea or select one of the suggested projects. Suggested PhD projects can be found on our website. Every applicant has two members of the RTG as their main supervisors. In addition, there is a thesis committee that oversees the overall progress.
