*UNIVERSITY OF HAMBURG** School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences** Department of Social Sciences, Institute of Sociology** * invites applications for a *post-doc (3/4)* position in the EU financed research project QUALITY Quality of Life in a Changing Europe (P.I. Prof. Sonja Drobnic, PhD). The expected starting date is *1 March 2006*. Position is pending final budgetary approval by the European Commission. Salary is at the level of II a BAT (3/4), with the working time of 30 hours per week. The fixed-term contract is in accordance with the §§ 57 a ff. Hochschulrahmengesetz, and is effective until *29 February 2008*. The University is striving to increase the proportion of women among its academic staff and therefore expressly encourages qualified women to apply for the post. In line with the Hamburg equal opportunities act, women with equal qualifications will have a priority. Candidates with a severe disability will be given priority over non-priority candidates with the same level of suitability, ability and subject competence. *_Tasks:_* Responsibilities include project-related services, in particular conducting empirical research within the project consortium. The position offers opportunities for autonomous research and acquirement of scientific qualifications as well as teaching skills. *_Task Specification:_* Tasks include an extensive literature review of theoretical concepts of quality of life, assessment of existing standard data sources on objective and subjective indicators, assessment of longitudinal data sources pertinent to measurement of quality of life in a dynamic perspective, conducting cross-national comparative analyses of quality of life using in particular quantitative research methods, contacts with other international members in the consortium. *_Qualification Requirements:_* The candidate for the post-doc position must hold the PhD at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to the PhD earned in Sociology but other related social science disciplines will be considered. Excellent skills in quantitative research methods and multivariate statistical techniques, and excellent ability to communicate and write in English are required. Experience with analyzing large-scale data sets, cross-national research, as well as substantive familiarity with topics closely related to the quality of life in Europe (i.e. working conditions, family, migration) is desired. Das infas-Institut in Bonn ist ein innovativer Dienstleister auf dem Gebiet der Entwicklung und Durchführung empirisch orientierter, sozialwissenschaftlicher Projekte für Wissenschaft, Gesellschaft, Politik und Unternehmen. Wir suchen baldmöglichst eine/einen Assistentin/Assistenten im Bereich Statistik Ihre Aufgabe ist es, unser Team im Kompetenzzentrum Statistik zu unterstützen, und zwar in der Organisation, Aufbereitung und Auswertung von Datensätzen sowie bei komplexen Datenprüfungen und -editionen. Ausgewiesene Erfahrungen mit komplexen Datensätzen sozialwissenschaftlicher Forschung sind Voraussetzung. Die alleinigen Erfahrungen, die gängigerweise im offiziellen Studiengang der Soziologie, Psychologie und Ökonomie gesammelt werden, sind allerdings keine hinreichende Bedingung, um das Tätigkeitsprofil auszufüllen. Research master "Sociology and Social Research"

Research master "Sociology and Social Research" ICS-Utrecht and the Department of Sociology of Utrecht University offer the Master's program "Sociology and Social Research". You may know about the well-established and successful Ph.D training program of the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS). The selective research master's program covers two years, leads to an MSc degree, and prepares for subsequent Ph.D training in sociology or another social science discipline - such as Ph.D training at the ICS - and for positions as a researcher in non-university social science research institutes. The research master's program "Sociology and Social Research" offers structured and systematic training in theoretically and methodologically advanced research in the field of sociology and the social sciences in general. The target group of students consists of promising students with a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent period of three years of undergraduate study and qualifications that justify the expectation of successful completion of the program in due time. This includes students with a BA Sociology or Social Sciences, broadly conceived and including Economics, Political Sciences, Public Administration, Demography, and (Social) Psychology. The program also attract students with a background in, for example, mathematics, computer sciences, econometrics and statistics who have an interest in practical applications and who are intrigued by the meanwhile vast and fruitful applications of various branches of mathematics, computer sciences, etc. in social science theory and research, including data analysis. The program is completely taught in English. Students from outside the Netherlands are explicitly encouraged to apply. Admission to the program is selective. "Sociology and Social Research" is one of Utrecht University's Prestige master program and thus benefits from special funds of Utrecht University. For example, students of the program are eligible for Utrecht Excellence Scholarships. These scholarships are exclusively offered for students in Utrecht University Prestige master programs. Various other stipends as well as teaching and research assistantships are available for talented applicants. Also, funding is available for participation in summer schools outside the Netherlands (for example, Essex and Ann Arbor). Applications are also welcome from those who wish to follow exclusively the first year of the program as exchange students. Each year, a new year group enters the program. Courses for this group will start on September 1, 2006. The main deadline for applications for the academic year 2006/2007 is March 1, 2006. 4th German Stata Users' Group Meeting

Announcement and Call for Papers We would like to announce the 4th German Stata Users' Group Meeting to be held at the University of Mannheim (http://www.uni-mannheim.de) on Friday, 31th March 2006. We would like to invite everybody from anywhere who is interested in using Stata to attend this meeting. Presentations are sought on topics that include: - user-written Stata programs, - case studies of research or teaching using Stata, - discussions of data management problems, - reviews of analytical issues, - surveys or critiques of Stata facilities in specific fields, etc. The conference language will be English due to the 'international' nature of the meeting and the participation of non-German guest speakers. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please submit an abstract (max 200 words) by email to one of the organizers. The deadline for submissions is 28th February 2006. Presentations should be about 20 min. or shorter. Frühjahrstagung: Call for Papers

Für ihre Frühjahrstagung sucht die Sektion Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung in der DGS noch Referenten. Die Frühjahrstagung findet am 24. und 25. März 2006 statt und trägt den Titel "Individuen und soziale Kontexte: Theoretische Konzepte und empirische Analysen". Tagungsort ist das Gerhard Mercator Haus der Universität Duisburg-Essen am Standort Duisburg. Das gewählte Thema und der Ort stehen im Zusammenhang mit der Emeritierung von Prof. Dr. Hans J. Hummel. Alle Beiträge im Zusammenhang mit dem Tagungsthema sind willkommen, z.B. Netzwerkanalysen, Mehrebenenanalysen, spieltheoretische Modellierungen von Kontexteffekten, theoretische Beiträge zum Thema.
