Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Survey Methodology at the ESS Headquarter in London We have an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Centre for Comparative Social Surveys (CCSS) at City University London. Established in 2003, the Centre for Comparative Social Surveys is host to the European Social Survey (ESS). The ESS is the largest academic comparative survey in Europe, covering up to 30 nations. In December 2013 the ESS became a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), with its Headquarters located within the CCSS. This role will support the CCSS team in publishing research on Survey Methodology in general and especially on methodological research concerning the ESS. Specific duties will include: developing a research agenda, contributing to the methodological research of the team, writing reports and scientific papers, presenting at national and international conferences, and limited teaching assignments where possible for career development purposes. Person Specification You will hold or will be near completion of a PHD in Survey Methodology or Sociology or a related field and will have a proven track record of quality published work in Survey Methodology. You will be highly motivated and well-organised with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A deep technical understanding of methodological issues in survey research is essential. The ability to conduct professional data analysis of large scale survey data is required. Call for Papers: MDA Special Issue on Data Collection in Panel Surveys

Mit freundlichen Grüßen Mark Trappmann Call for Papers Special issue "Data Collection in Panel Surveys " of the peer reviewed journal "Methods, Data, Analyses" (mda) edited by Josef Brüderl and Mark Trappmann Dear Colleague, We are inviting submission of articles for a special issue of the peer reviewed, free open-access journal "Methods, Data, Analyses" (mda) focusing on "Data collection in panel surveys". Papers should address methodological topics that are unique to the design and implementation of panel surveys. Only papers that address panel-specific issues will be considered. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) measurement issues like panel conditioning, seam effects and dependent interviewing or representation issues like attrition, tracking and panel maintenance, design of refreshment samples, following rules and longitudinal weighting. We also invite submissions concerning the implementation of panel data collection, e.g. questionnaire construction, fieldwork monitoring, use of paradata, adaptive and responsive panel designs, interviewer training and assignment, post collection processing, and editing. We specifically welcome papers that implement field experiments in ongoing panel surveys to address the topics mentioned above. The special issue offers two different formats. Besides normal length articles of up to 10,000 words, we encourage the submission of shorter research notes of no more than 5,000 words. All papers submitted will first be screened by the editors for general suitability and then double-blindly reviewed by at least two reviewers. Der Mikrozensus als größte laufende Haushaltsstichprobe in Deutschland steht der Wissenschaft u. a. als 70 %-Substichprobe (Scientific Use File) für Forschungsvorhaben zur Verfügung. Der Schwerpunkt des Fragenprogramms liegt auf soziodemographischen, sozioökonomischen und erwerbsstatistischen Merkmalen. Ziel der Veranstaltung ist, grundlegende Kenntnisse in Bezug auf das Arbeiten mit den Daten sowie einen Überblick über die Besonderheiten und Analysemöglichkeiten des Mikrozensus zu vermitteln. Im Zentrum stehen Fragen der Arbeitsmarktanalyse. Am ersten Tag werden Fachvorträge über die Konzeption, das Erhebungsdesign und Themenschwerpunkte des Mikrozensus angeboten. Darauf aufbauend werden diese Themen am zweiten Tag in praktischen Übungen vertiefend behandelt. Each accepted submission will be given a brief plenary time slot for presentation (e.g. during Pecha Kucha or short presentation sessions) as well as a poster stand during the joint poster session of the event. The event will be non-archival (i.e. no proceedings). Submissions should be 1-2 page abstracts (up to approx. 1000 words) summarizing the work to be presented. We encourage researchers to also submit mature work that has already been published and/or submit work-in-progress. Submissions will mostly be evaluated based on relevance and the potential to stimulate interesting discussions.
