Dear colleagues, we are currently planning to publish a special volume on "Survey Methodology in Higher Education Research" in a refereed (German) journal. The volume is intended for researchers who conduct surveys in the field of higher education research and science studies within the framework of national education monitoring, research projects or evaluation studies. The subjects of higher education research are a special target group in many ways. So far, however, only little methodological research has been published specifically in the field of higher education research. With this special volume, we therefore aim on bringing together important findings of methodological research in order to enable the scientific community of higher education researchers to benefit from this expertise. We are particularly interested in contributions on the following topics: · Panel acquisition, both target groups and universities · Sampling and weighting · Survey experiments, e.g. on incentives, survey modes, timing and duration · Panel engagement, attrition and nonresponse · Cognitive pretesting of survey instruments; practice and findings · Measurement instrument development and validation, e.g. also in comparison of different disciplines, qualification levels or languages However, further topics dealing with survey methodological issues in higher education research are also welcome. Pfeffer) At the University of Bremen, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute for Sociology and the SOCIUM Research Institute Inequality and Social Policy we are currently searching a highly motivated and excellently qualified doctoral student (qualitative empirical social research, social network research) for a 50% position, 3 years starting March 2020. The time limitation is based on § 2 (1) WissZeitVG (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, i.e. temporary science employment act). Therefore, candidates may only be considered who dispose of the respective scope of qualification periods according to § 2 (1) WissZeitVG. The doctoral student will be working with the research group of Prof. Dr. Betina Hollstein. Our research topics include social networks, life-course, social inequality, and methods of empirical social research (qualitative and quantitative). The position includes cooperation in a joint research project, publications, and a small amount of teaching (B.A. Sociology, Research Master Program Sociology and Empirical Social Research). The doctoral researcher will be working in a joint international project on the qualitative analysis of social networks (multi informant networks; cooperation with the working group of Laura Koehly, PhD, at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA). We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a master degree, ideally in sociology or a related social science. Desired are * training and experience in interview-based qualitative methods; * either coursework or other forms of training in social networks are not required but strongly preferred; * participation and preparation of a doctoral thesis within a mixed-methods project on multi-informant support networks; * initiative, independence, drive, efficiency, productivity, the ability to work in groups, and a commitment to high quality social science research; * advanced language skills in English, both in speaking and writing is required, as the Research Groups working language is English, proficiency in German is highly welcome but not mandatory. Das MQIC-Förderprogramm für junge Wissenschaftler*innen – MAXQDA International Conference 2020

Liebe Listenmitglieder, Die kommende MAXQDA International Conference (MQIC) findet vom 26. – 28. Februar 2020 in Berlin statt. Hier tauschen sich deutsche und internationale Wissenschaftler*innen aus der qualitativen und Mixed Methods Forschung zu Fragen von Forschung und Lehre aus. Die MQIC bietet Ihnen viel Raum den eigenen Horizont zu erweitern, sich mit anderen MAXQDA-Anwender*innen zu vernetzen und das MAXQDA-Entwicklungsteam kennenzulernen. Freuen Sie sich auf die Keynote von Prof. John Cresswell, auf mehr als 30 Workshops und Spotlight Sessions, Roundtables, eine Poster-Session sowie diverse Networking-Events. Mit dem <https://conference.maxqda.de/reisekostenzuschuss-junge-forschung> MQIC-Förderprogramm möchten wir jungen Wissenschaftler*innen, die über geringe finanzielle Mittel verfügen, die Teilnahme an der MQIC 2020 ermöglichen. Im Rahmen des Förderprogramms können die Reise- und Teilnahmekosten hochmotivierter Promovierender mit bis zu 500 Euro bezuschusst werden. Die Bewerbungsfrist für das MQIC-Förderprogramm für Promovierende ist der 31. Januar 2020. Eingehende Bewerbungen werden regelmäßig geprüft, sodass Sie möglicherweise schon vor dem 31.
