The Journal of Economics and Statistics (“Jahrbücher für Nationalökonomie und Statistik”) will publish a special issue on:
“Methodological Artefacts, Data Manipulation and Fraud in Economics and Social Science”
edited by Andreas Diekmann, ETH Zurich (special issue editor)
Falsified interviews and data threaten the validity of empirical social science as do unintentional and systematic errors in survey design, sampling, econometric analysis, and experimental lab research. While problems of data falsification are supposedly less common than in biomedical publications, they may still be significant enough to threaten the integrity and the trust placed in scientific research. New diagnostic techniques and replications of experimental, econometric and survey research can improve data quality and identify errors in economics and social science publications.
We welcome contributions on the following topics:
• Estimates of the frequency of data manipulation, falsification, and plagiarism in the social sciences
• Diagnostics and the impact of interview falsification
• Systematic error by inappropriate design, sampling or statistical methods
• Systematic error in experimental lab research
• Methods to detect illegitimate data manipulation
• Methods to detect systematic errors by meta-analysis and replications
• And related topics
Manuscripts should be submitted no later than November 30th, 2010 and will be peer-reviewed.
