Sehr geehrte Kolleg:innen,
Unser Panel "Actors without arena?

Beschreibung:
Youths and immigrants, notwithstanding many differences, share one important feature: Because these groups make up only a relatively small part of the population, and because many of them lack electoral eligibility, they do not represent a relevant clientele for political actors. Consequently, they are also often not considered a relevant topic for political science research. This is problematic, since the political participation of youths and immigrants will become even more important in the future against the background of increasing migration and demographic change. Both groups include members that are eligible to participate in the political system fully or partly and those who are not. Eligible young adults and naturalised immigrants form a small part of the electorate. However, those who lack the full rights to participate in formalised political representation latter group members will, over time, integrate into the political system. To better assess the possible consequences of voting right expansions, we thus need to know more about the political behaviour and attitudes of newly enfranchised as well as not yet enfranchised citizens.
The proposed panel shall bring together research on the political participation of youths' and immigrants. Papers should address questions such as:
What are the main factors that drive political participation among these groups? How do patterns differ between enfranchised and disenfranchised members of these groups? How do patterns differ between youths and immigrants? What specific hurdles do youths with migration background face concerning their political integration?
