i-com Journal on Interactive and Cooperative Media Special Issue on Interdisciplinary Approaches to Social Technologies
Submission Deadline: March 31, 2015 Link to HTML-Version:http://crossworlds.info/call-for-papers/
Interactive media increasingly have a strong social impact on current societies. While some technologies such as smartphones already enable us to experience new ways to interact in social environments, other technologies such as large scale multi touch surfaces, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality glasses, and intelligent software are at the verge of driving these experiences even further. This new type of social technologies includes both technologies interacting with users themselves (e.g. social robots, virtual agents, assistance systems) and technologies that facilitate the interaction between two or more users (e.g. tutor systems, multiplayer games, multi touch tables).
These multifaceted topics in the context of human computer interaction combine know-how from different fields of research or disciplines concerned with human factors, social interaction, computer science, or engineering. While interdisciplinary approaches benefit from more diverse perspectives on the respective technology they often face conceptual, methodological, or even cultural challenges. Diverse strategies can be employed, both to maximize the benefits of interdisciplinary research, and to minimize misunderstandings or problems. At the same time, successful cooperations can serve as showcases for best practices for future endeavors.
Keeping these challenges in mind, we invite scientists and practitioners from interdisciplinary research groups to submit papers for a special issue on interdisciplinary approaches in the context of social technologies addressing one or more of the following topics.
- research prototypes und approaches to social technology
- theoretical and methodological approaches and challenges
- perspectives on interdisciplinary HCI research
- natural user interfaces (e.g. touch, tangible or gesture-based interaction)
- virtual and augmented reality (e.g. applications for health care, therapy, entertainment or learning)
- communication and interaction in video games or serious games
- spatial and perceptual illusions in collaborative display technologies (e.g. spatial mapping)
- ethical and societal Implications of social technologies
- recognition and prediction of users’ intentions
- impact of users’ moods and emotions on human computer interaction or human robot interaction
- ...
