Professor / Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Sociology (with a focus on the construction of models of social consequences of individual decisions) The position belongs to the behavioral studies program at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS). It can be filled at either Assistant Professor or Full Professor level, depending on the qualification of the applicant. Successful candidates should possess a record of research and teaching accomplishments in the field of sociological model building and simulation. The basic-research focus of the position is the use of formal models or computer simulation to analyze social structures and processes as the products of individual actions. Such methods should be applied by the candidate to an area of sociological research such as the labor market, education, demography or organizations, with an emphasis on the use of empirical and statistical methods to validate the theories and models in question. The candidate should also demonstrate a strong interest in collaborative research and teaching with scientists from other disciplines. It is expected that candidates are willing to create an attractive course program for students in natural and engineering sciences within the scope of the compulsory electives in social sciences and humanities as well as the new Bachelor and Master courses of study. Courses at Master level may be taught in English. Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for an additional twoyear period and promotion to a permanent position.
