Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite submissions for our session “Current Methodological Challenges and Applications in Environmental and Climate Research” at the European Survey Research Association (ESRA) 2025 conference at the Utrecht University, The Netherlands, from July 14 to July 18, 2025.
Session Focus:
Climate change and the depletion of natural resources are critical global challenges requiring innovative policies and societal action. To understand public perceptions, environmental behaviors, and policy support, robust data and methodologies are essential. Our session will explore how survey research can advance knowledge in this field, with a focus on addressing key methodological challenges.
We welcome contributions that focus on one of these topics. • Measuring environmental behavior and household carbon footprints, addressing biases (e.g., self-reporting, social desirability). • Investigating public opinion, policy acceptance, and climate skepticism while managing response biases and privacy concerns. • Employing survey experiments to evaluate policy perceptions under uncertainty and complexity. • Integrating survey data with novel data sources (e.g., geospatial data, sensor data, administrative data) to consider context effects and enhance data quality. • Addressing sample-selection and the under-representation of far-right supporters and climate sceptics.
Submission Details
Abstracts should include a clear description of the research question, methodology, and relevance to the session's theme. • Abstract: max. 300 Words • Submission Deadline: 20th December 2024 • Submission Portal: ESRA conference management system www.europeansurveyresearch.org/call-for-esra25-abstracts-now-open/
For questions or further information, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to receiving your submissions and to engaging discussions at ESRA 2025!
