Thanks everyone for the kudos! I'd like to mention that the new release wouldn't have been possible without the great help our team, so... a big thank you, in particular, to: Dimitar, Leo, Rosi, Lukas, Michael, and Alex! In addition, we have now made it much easier to retrieve stable snapshots of the latest BaseX versions. The ZIP, EXE and JAR snapshots can be found at: http://files.basex.org/releases/latest/ In the past, we didn't offer Maven artifacts for BaseX snapshots; this has now been changed as well: http://files.basex.org/maven/org/basex/basex/ http://files.basex.org/maven/org/basex/basex-api/ Btw, the latest snapshot includes a small optimization that will speed up many calls to the XQuery fn:count() function by orders of magnitudes (this fix didn't make it into the official release anymore). Dear all, thanks everyone for your support! We are more than excited to announce BaseX 7.0 (a.k.a. the TEI Edition), the best version we have ever released! It includes an impressive bunch of new features: STORAGE: Files of any data type can now be stored in BaseX in their raw representation. This means that BaseX can now be used as a full-fledged storage system. Next, millions of documents can now be added faster than ever before. APIs: We have rewritten our HTTP services: Our REST implementation has been integrated much more tightly in the core system. It can be used to query XML data, retrieve binary resources, and send database commands. A new WebDAV API provides access to the database via your file system, oXygen and various other clients. The classical clients (available for 10 different programming languages) have been extended and sped up. XQUERY: Numerous modules have been added to process all kinds of data formats via XQuery: JSON documents can be parsed and serialized, SQL databases can be queried, XSLT cryptographics functions are available to encrypt data and use XML signatures. Our database module has been extended to facilitate the storage and modification of database resources. FULL-TEXT: We now offer tokenization and stemming support for 21 different natural languages, including Japanese (thanks to Toshio HIRAI!). Next, we have further optimized the internals of our retrieval features of BaseX. BaseX is a very light-weight, high-performance and scalable XML Database and XPath/XQuery Processor, including full support for the W3C Update and Full Text extensions. An interactive and user-friendly GUI frontend gives you great insight into your XML documents and collections. BaseX is completely Open Source (BSD-licensed) and platform independent. Wiki: "external" internal links

Hi basex developers, the wiki uses external links for internal URLs in some places, for example on the start/main page, for all the Category links. By "external" I mean links that are enclosed in single-brackets [] only, while the resources they link to are in the same wiki and could be referenced by double-brackets [[]]. This is confusing because external links get an icon to indicate they are, well, external - so I was surprised to end up in the same wiki after clicking them ;-) Is there a reason this was done, or just a mistake/copy-n-paste-problem? I could fix them as I see them, if that is desired. Kind regards, Ralf

Hi Just gave this a quick try on tomcat 6 ubuntu 10.10 Apache Tomcat/6.0.28 1.6.0_26-b03 Sun Microsystems Inc. Linux 2.6.35-30-generic i386 It would not load, the logs had the message Tomcat6 error : jar not loaded. See Servlet Spec 2.3, section 9.7.2. Offending class: ... Following this<http://www.simplysimple.info/tomcat-error-jar-not-loaded-servlet-spec-23-se…>I removed servlet-api-2.5.20081211.jar from the war and got a bit further Hitting permission problems Saving properties in "/usr/share/tomcat6/.basex"... /usr/share/tomcat6/.basex could not be written. Should it be attempting to save stuff here? /Andy

Hi Jens, As per Ralf's note I do not see any more ports opened by the server process, but the configuration is working well for serverhost as localhost as well as other IPs. node.js interface?

Hi, I wonder if you have any plans to add a Node.js interface to the basex-api client set? I think this could be very useful. In design terms I imagine it might look very similar the Redis client https://github.com/bnoguchi/redis-node. /Andy

Basex HTTP server : path not found error

Christian, I am trying to set up Basex HTTP server and run some xquery scripts through REST style. In http://docs.basex.org/wiki/REST#Usage_Examples, we have example http://localhost:8984/rest/factbook/index.xq to run index.xq scripts. Where are we keeping xquery scripts? In .basex configuration file, we have DBPATH = /Users/xxx/BaseXData HTTPPATH = /Users/xxx/BaseXHTTP REPOPATH = /Users/xx/BaseXRepo Which one is for folder that keeps xquery scripts? Above query returns "Path does not exist." error. I have compiled the recent version of Basex and use it on Mac OSX Lion 64 bit. Thanks Erol Akarsu
