Jürgen Wedekind RIP
It is with great sadness that we hear about the passing of Jürgen Wedekind (1956-2021). Jürgen made seminal contributions to LFG and unification-based grammars, including the use of classical logics in describing feature-based grammars, properties of machine translation and complexity and decidability of generation with feature-based grammars, with a string of publications in the journal of Computational Linguistics (1999, 2012, 2014 and 2020). Jürgen was our colleague at IMS, University of Stuttgart, Germany (1985-1996), a research scientist at the University of Tübingen, Germany (1996-1999), a senior researcher and graduate course director at the Center for Language Technology and the University of Copenhagen, Denmark (1999-2021) and a frequent visiting scholar and consultant at XEROX PARC, California. Jürgen obtained his PhD in 1990, and his Habilitation in 1998. We miss Jürgen as a colleague and a friend. We share our sorrow with Jürgen's family.
