Program Chairs: Rob Procter, Manchester Ekkehard Mochmann, Cologne CALL FOR PARTICIPATION The annual International Conference on e-Social Science brings together leading representatives of the social science, e-Infrastructure, cyberinfrastructure and e-Research communities in order to improve mutual awareness and promote coordinated activities to accelerate research, development and deployment of powerful, new methods and tools for the social sciences and beyond. Keynotes speakers for the conference: * Ian Foster: Director of the Computation Institute, a joint institute of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory. * Mario Campolargo: Director of the "Emerging Technologies and Infrastructures" Directorate of DG-INFSO * David Theo Goldberg: co-founder and co-leader of HASTAC (Humanities, Arts, Science and Technology Advanced Collaboratory). Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen, wir möchten Sie auf die folgende Veranstaltung hinweisen: SOEPcampus@Universität Mannheim 2009 ?Längsschnittdatenanalyse mit dem Sozio-ökonomischen Panel (SOEP)? 22.-24. Juni 2009, Universität Mannheim, Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) Ziel des Workshops ist ein fundierter Einblick in das Arbeiten mit dem SOEP. Dazu werden Kenntnisse in zwei Bereichen vermittelt. Zum einen wird ein Überblick über die Datenstruktur und die Analysemöglichkeiten des SOEP gegeben. Zum anderen werden zwei ausgewählte Analyseverfahren von Längsschnittdaten vorgestellt (Panelregression, Propensity Score Matching) . Zusammen bieten beide Teile eine Grundlage für eigene Forschungsarbeiten mit dem SOEP und ähnlichen Längsschnittdatensätzen. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an fortgeschrittene Studierende, Doktoranden und Nachwuchswissenschaftler aus den Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften. Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme sind solide Kenntnisse in multivariaten Analyseverfahren und praktische Erfahrungen mit der Datenanalyse. Die Anmeldung ist ab sofort möglich. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist begrenzt. Recent Advances in Small Area Statistics (RRC09), 22nd and 23rd June 2009 The main purpose of the workshop is to assess the current state of research on small area estimation and to serve as a bridge between experienced researchers of small area methodology and practitioners working on sample surveys and official statistics either in government or private agencies. The workshop will also offer a unique opportunity for the students and junior researchers to interact with senior researchers in a very informal setting. The two-day program will consist of nine plenary sessions, which will take place in a ship cruising on the famous Rhine river, and a poster session to be held in a hotel in Koblenz during a wine reception immediately before the conference dinner on June 22. The cruise will start in Mainz on June 22 and end in Cologne on June 23. The plenary sessions each consist of a 55 minute lecture followed by a 20 minute floor discussion. There is no parallel session in the entire workshop, which will offer participants an opportunity to attend all sessions.
