Medizin, Theologie, Philosophie, Medizinethik, Soziologie, Pflegewissenschaft) mit empirisch-ethischem Forschungsinteresse Die Methodenverknüpfung der empirisch-ethischen Forschung hat sich in der Medizinethik etabliert, bricht aber die klassischen Strukturen und wird daher auch als „new form of academic inquiry“ bezeichnet. Für Forschende und insbesondere für NachwuchswissenschaftlerInnen ist die Kombination der Methoden eine Herausforderung: Wie können empirische Forschung und normative Analyse gewinnbringend verbunden werden? Die Qualität ebenso wie generalisierbare Qualitätskriterien empirisch-ethischer Arbeiten werden gegenwärtig stark diskutiert. Als Voraussetzung für Publikationen oder Anträge bei Drittmittelförderern ist zudem das positive Votum einer Ethikkommission in der Regel erforderlich. Doch auch bei den Ethikkommissionen gibt es für die Bewertung empirisch-ethischer Forschung keine einheitlichen Standards. Das Retreat widmet sich deshalb den Fragen, welche Besonderheiten mit empirisch-ethischer Forschung verbunden sind und nach welchen Kriterien Ethikkommissionen solche Arbeiten bewerten bzw. bewerten können und sollten. Ausgewiesene ExpertInnen mit unterschiedlichen fachlichen Hintergründen werden das Retreat mit Impulsvorträgen bereichern. Im Mittelpunkt der Veranstaltung sollen Erfahrungsaustausch und Diskussionen unter Nachwuchswissen-schaftlerInnen und ExpertInnen stehen. Dear colleagues, Please be kindly reminded that the deadline for submissions to give a talk or win the pre-registration challenge at the MZES Open Social Science Conference 2019 (OSSC19) is approaching fast. Please Submit your extended abstracts (750 words max) before 22 August 2018, 24:00 CEST. OSSC19 will be held at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) in Mannheim, Germany, from 25-27 January 2019. It offers an opportunity to connect with the open science movement for all researchers from across the social sciences who are interested in debating, advancing, and practicing open science. OSSC19 will feature keynotes by Jeremy Freese (Stanford University), Thomas König (University of Mannheim), Arthur Lupia (University of Michigan), and Julia Rohrer (University of Leipzig). There are two options for you to participate in the conference: 1. You can <https://www.mzes.uni-mannheim.de/openscience/index.php/give-a-talk/> give a talk that provides discussion of, a methodological advance to, or a demonstration of best practices in open social science. 2. While seeming outrageous at the time, a growing body of meta-scientific research in the behavioral and social sciences substantiated this claim, causing uncertainty about the trustworthiness of published scientific findings. We believe that threats to the validity of published findings in the social sciences are widespread and systemic. A jury will select the best presentation (including any created resources, such as secondary datasets or analysis code) to be awarded the very first Euro CSS Dataset Challenge Award. The work presented at the symposium can be early stage, but should be methodically sound and provide either preliminary insights into an interesting research question or first inductively-reached conclusions of systematic patterns of bias in the dataset. These can also be on a meta-level or may be designated to positioning the work in broader theoretical contexts, e.g., about biases in the data collection. Submissions should be abstracts of approx. 2-3 pages (maximum up to 1000 words plus references and figures). It's just like a poetry slam, but with science instead of poems. Slammers are completely free to do whatever they want on stage, everything is allowed including slides, games, the more creative, the better! The only two rules are: 1) The topic of the slam has to be related to data science / computational social science or to social media, online data or digital behavioral data, and 2) Presentations should not take more than 8 minutes. The EuroCSS Science Slam will take place in the evening of December 5th in Die Wohngemeinschaft (https://www.die-wohngemeinschaft.net/en/). To present, send an email to garcia(a)csh.ac.at<mailto:garcia@csh.ac.at> with a short proposal of your topic for the slam and we will contact you.
